I am trying to fit some ships, and I came to a curious discovery so I think I do something wrong.
If I only use tech2 modules (or meta 4 stuff) I can make in EFT on a lot of cruisers and battle cruisers a passive shield tank what is 3x as strong (or more) as an active armor tank, even if the ship involved gets bonus on the armor resist or armor repair amounts. And I use Gallente and Amarr ships only. A quick look at Minmater and Caldari, thye even can make better ones.
So I am prity convinced there is some hidden advantage to armor tanking or disadvantage to passive shield tanking. Could somebody explain what I miss?

Passive shield tanking uses up all the midslots you need for Ewar, Webbing and Scrambling, as well as low slots. It is therefore recommended for PVP. For PVE purposes people often do use a passive shield tank, as you say.

Well spotted. Meant to say armor tanks are recommended for PVP, but I obviously forgot what I was talking about halfway through.
It's been a long day.

You can't fit as much gank if you go for passive tank, which means you might have trouble killing stuff in PvP (and even in higher-end PvE). You can always use it as bait though
