How long does it usually take for a character scam petition to be looked at? I've been a victim of such an act for 5 days now, and my petition hasn't been answered at all. I've lost a large sum of isk and am wondering why no action has been taken.
Is this category of petition a high priority or does it usually take a while to see a result? Or is there a huge backlog of petitions for the GMs?
Please share your experiences! :)

Well lets see, if it was the GM's who took your ISKies because you bought them, then I'd guess that it will take them a very long time to get back in touch with you.
If, on the other hand, you really got scammed, depending on the type of scam, some scams are perfectly legal in Eve (such as buying an empty container for 2 billion ISK. This also I suppose would move your petition to the back of the queue.
Lastly, if you got scammed by someone using an illegal exploit, then it will take time for them to track down where every last little ISK you lost went to and remove it from those player's accounts, as well as refunding any innocent players any items they sold in return for that cash if appropriate.

Wow Danadur that was an extremely helpful post!
Anyways Tsuya, as long as the rules of character auction were followed as posted in this sticky then it is just a matter of time waiting your turn in the queue.

You sent isk without him confirming the buyout, its possible that the GMs wont refund you as it was just a gift

Actually, he sent it basically at the same time as someone else, and he wasn't refunded. That's hardly not a legal scam especially if he ignores any requests for the ISK back.
6b ISK will take time to track down seeing how he probably spent it already...so just keep tight. I have an almost 2-week old petition about 2 disappearing skill books, so I'm not surprised about the backlog.

Firstly I posted my intent to buyout the character before I sent the isk.
Secondly I added a journal to the transfer stating that it was for the purchase of the character.
Its pretty clear that the isk wasn't a gift :)
It seems there's a few people still waiting for petitions to be looked at, time to be patient and trust in CCP!

All scams involving character transfers are prohibited.
Regardless of procedure. I've had this before, it took some time as the guy in question was laundering across a couple of sales & purchases of other characters but the GM managed to tackle him.
I must say however the this was the second GM on the case, the first one didn't have a clue, even after referring him to the sticky. So I asked for another, and if that was not possible for escalation. I got another GM, he followed the link and started to dig.
Petitions require an unseeded skill called patience :-) Make sure it is in the right category billing-character transfers.

When I sell a character, I deal only with the winning bidder. Anything else that jumps into my wallet is a donation as far as I'm concerned.
Sounds to me like you should have been a little more patient.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, BUT if you offered a buyout, and then didn't WAIT for the seller of the character to confirm that he is accepting the buyout BEFORE you sent the isk, you are SOL.

1. IF YOU ACTUALLY BOTHERED TO READ THE STICKY ON CHARACTER SALE RULES, YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT NO ISK SHOULD CHANGE HANDS UNTIL THE SALE IS CONFIRMED BY THE SELLER.
This has happened before and the player it happened to was NOT given his isk back.
In the future, if you're going to throw that much isk around, pay attention to the details.

Looks like you donated some ISK to seller, as opposed to actually "BUYING" anything. So, as far as I can understand the rules, he can keep the ISK, so long as you are not a macrominer/ISK buyer - you just made a mistake and gave ISK away, this EVE, hope you can recover from your loss quickly.

Um as far as I see in the sale thread you went a head and sold yourself the character without any input from the actual seller.
WTF were you thinking?

Next thing you know, OP is at 7.5 billion ISK negative because he bought the ISK for the character, which was also the reason he wasn't as careful about giving it away as he should have been. -------- Ideas for: Mining

Blatant act? The OP post in his sell thread AFTER someone else had already offered a buyout, and THEN proceeded to SEND 8 billionish isk to the character owner without waiting for any word from seller.
You can hardly call this a blatant attempt at a character scam--EVEN (and that's REALLY BIG EVEN) the OP eventually gets his isk back.

Yes I did. OP sent isk to the seller without the seller even acknowledging his bid, let alone suggesting that it had been accepted.
This sucks, its true, but given that this is EVE the OP shouldn't be so careless about sending off isk to characters before an agreement is made.

And they are relevent how?
You cant pay somebody for somthing and own it unless they actually sell it to you. Similar to how I can't go drop 10k in my neighbors mail box and drive off with his car. Or I could, but I'd be arrested for stupidity and grand theft auto.

Everything in this post is completely correct, but alas it is also completely irrelevant to the op... Nice reading comprehension. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

There was no agreement between you and the seller in regards to the buyout. He had not accepted your offer. If I was the GM, I would consider it a gift.

Thanks to everyone for your kind (and not so kind) words.
The GMs reversed the transaction this morning, and I am satisfied with the result. Quality customer service in action it seems!
To fellow EVE players waiting on petitions, patience pays :)
