Hi all,
In short: one character mines, second hauls ore to station. I have two accounts so I can do those things without logging off to switch toons. Miner dumps ore to a can and hauler takes it to his ship cargo and when it's filled up goes to station. Is it ok setup for very newbie asteroid crunching operation?
In a few days this character will be able to fly a Mammoth with cargo extenders and rigs which I plan to use as my ore truck. I don't want to dump everything into a can and then leave it at belt while I will slowly moving ore to station in my mining ship's cargo - you know, can flippers and breaks in shooting rocks :)
I have no talent for numbers and spreadsheets so for me it is only miner, haul, sell - at least for now. Maybe later I will get into refining, manufacture or sth else but for now simplest stuff possible.
Currently with only one ship I make few mils per hour, nothing big but enough to buy me some rifters for pvp toon. With hauler isk/hour ratio should get better so less hours spent on replacing ships lost in pvp. If I could get it up to 20-30 mil per hour when I skill up and upgrade my miner's modules and ship I would say I'm done, don't need more.
At least that's my idea for this moment, probably "reality" will correct this very fast.
So anything wrong with my business plan? Too optimistic, too lame? - any thoughts and suggestions will be welcome. |

This is a ok setup and it might get you up to maybe 10 mil an hour it will take some time to increase the income. Unless you can get a orca to boost you |

Depending on where you're mining and what rats you can handle, I would suggest trying it with two miners and jetting cans if you don't have an Orca pilot to help out. Can timer is 2 hours I think, so let's say two characters jet 6 full cans in 1 hour (it all depends on your skills and what you're mining in ofc). One of the characters goes to station and gets his hauler and hauls all of the cans, then you go start over with both mining again.
Caveats:
1) Avoid systems with ore thieves in (stay off the beaten track). 2) Watch the can timers - they pop after a while. 3) Don't mine while Hulkageddon is on! |

Thanks for response guyz.
Two miners is not an option for me atm because this toon shares account with pvp toon and to be honest I have some pvp related skills I want to get up and one weeks or so is all I want to spare right now. So once I put my hauler into Mammoth I'll get back to training more dark side of Eve :)
Miner toon is on separate account and now takes a break from L3 missions which I found as boring as L2s. I think that I should try all things Eve has to offer so I though why the hell not try and see what is all that crying about miners about :) If I like it as a casual activity for sunday chill out mornings it's ok, if not I will go to exploration which is next on my todo list. Well, I probably will do it next month anyway and will keep mining as just another thing I'm skilled up in doing.
Once again, thanks for your input. |

If you are after ISK, I would ditch mining altogether and get involved in Faction Warfare. Those people are going to be rolling in ISK after Inferno rolls out. You will need to watch the cues from the null sec overlords about which market is going to be more valuable from month to month though.

Any mining ops I run are on this scale at the moment and it's a technique used by a lot of pilots new to mining so you're probably on track.
In terms of the container, I rename it with a time stamp so that I'm aware of how long it's been sitting there and I make sure all ore is picked up into the hauler leaving only a single unit of ore to maintain the can without risking loss to can flippers, etc.
If you wanted to you could also look to scan down grav. sites so that you can mine in relative peace away from the main belts, but as with all thing stay vigilant. The miner / hauler technique translates well to scanned gas clouds too for variety.
You could look to establish positive standings with an industrial alliance or corp close to where you operate and see whether you can join their mining operations which are more likely to include Orca support. It gives you the advantages of a larger mining fleet with bonuses without having to wait until you're at that stage yourself.
In my experience industrial corps are usually happy to have friends along for the op as it means the ore comes in a little quicker and hauling is less of a burden with the proceeds being fairly split at the end.

Another option is to find a system deep in Low Sec and move your operations there. Have your hauler alt also be your combat pilot. While your miner mines, have your alt be in a combat ship to fight off belt rats. Once the can is full, swap the combat ship for a hauler and bring the ore in before swapping right back out to your combat ship.
If you do your research, you'll be able to find a system DEEP in low that hardly anyone ever touches.. and thus you'll rarely be bothered by other players. (That said, always keep an eye on local just in case).
Hulkageddon is largely irrelevant in low sec (since anyone can gank you anyway) and the returns are better with the higher end ores. I don't make minerals. I just make ore 20% cooler. |

I suggest looking at the mining tab in the program linked in my sig to see how much you'll make per hour and help plan training, etc. Maximze your Industry Potential! - Get EVE Isk per Hour! |

It's not that I wanna be left alone with my mining lazor so tracking down deep-end lowsec system just to mine in peace and silence is not really my goal here. I just want to check out why so many ppl stop exploring Eve at those damn rocks :) And if I can make some iskies on the way, why not.
For now it seems like a nice activity if you can have you client open in window mode and want to catch up on some movies that you don't have to experience in fullscreen mode or track the story in very intensive way. So basically one eye on Eve, one on movie :)
As for staying vigilant... Few months in lowsec pvp and I have OCD about clicking dscan button every few seconds... everywhere I am. So not really AFK thing for me that mining I do here. And I use same overview as on pvp toon so I can see more things around me, not only rocks (in fact I don't see rocks beside General tab that shows all objects). Who knows, maybe next time you will see me next to you at belt I will be there just as a warp in point for Hulkageddon crew :)

It seems like a solid app, I will check it out today (with one eye on Eve :) ) |

What might be a little faster is 1) two mining toons, 2) use a bunch of GSC's, 3) when all cans full send hauler back to get indy to move stuffs, 4) and get hauler back into mining ship when done hauling. Probably increase your take a bit to maximize two miners rather than just one. |

As it sounds like you're already a pretty established pilot, i'd suggest flying a BS. swap out your guns for however many miner IIs you can fit (only takes mining 4). bookmark a rock, jettison the bookmark to hold the can, then have your hauler take the ore and leave the bookmark. you'll have to play with the cycle times, because most BS can't hold all lasers going at the same time, but it's easy enough to figure out. you'll also either have drones for the rats, or can just have the tank already set up to just permatank them.

I don't know about establish part but if comes to mining ship... Well, let's just say I deserve getting ganked just because I spit pvp gods in their faces :) But six meta 3 lazors + 5 t1 mining drones give me 526 m3 ore per cycle which is way better than scythe with same 3 lazors and one drone (388 m3 at my current skills). All six lazors run smoothly, only breaks are caused by death of a asteroid or trip to station when cargo is full. And since I tend to use whatever gets results I don't give a flying fu*k about what ppl think seeing me at belt crunching rocks.
To be honest now I think I will train for t2 mining gear just for lolz :) Ok, getting hulk and orca would be a little overkill but lasers and drones, why not? |
