I am hoping someone can help me with this one. Using a basic cloak on an anathema i found i could not lock a target while cloaked. Is this the same for all cloaks?
I can understand not being able to fire on your enemies while cloaked (because its perhaps a bit unfair) - but there is surely a valid need to be able to scan ships and cargo while cloaked.
If you cant actualy do any actions while cloaked - where is the usefulness of covert ops ships ??
I am hoping someone with any experience of this can help me out here. Looks like a good ship and i want to get some use out of it.

there no no point mounting anything but a covert ops cloak on a covert ops ship
all cloaks prevent you form locking or activating modules
covert ops cloak lets you warp while cloaked and ha sno speed penalty
you are better flying a frigate/interceptor with a basic cloak, i dont think you gain anything extra from a covert ops ship without a covert ops cloak __________________________________________________

hmmm - thats what i thought. but 90 mill for a covert ops cloak which doesnt allow much else over the prototype cloak other than flying at normal speed while hidden, seems a bit steep.
IMO i would like to see scanners still functioning while cloaked. It would give the ships a real battlefield pupose of being able to determine the loadout of an enemy ship whilst remaining hidden
anyone with any other thoughts on the usefulness of a covert ops ship ??

Park it 15km behind your target. That's pretty useful.

Just get a dual MWD frig with basic cloak and save your self sheds loads of ISK. It will be just as useless as the CO-Frig.

Combat is not the purpouse of the covert op frig. It's pupouse is however to go into enemy terretory unnoticed. Perfect for making instajumps etc in the enemies nest. It's an expensive way of making eg. bookmarks, but bookmarks save's many ships.

Ok Mr.Alt. Last time I checked, you cant activate any modules while cloaked, so why bother with a duel mwd frig? You'll still go **** slow. ------------------------------------------

Covert Ops have a very narrow range of uses, but those uses can be pretty deadly. Perhaps if the price goes waaaay down we'll see them actually uncloak and web or jam in combat, but right now I don't think anyone is going to risk an uninsurable 100M when you could just have a friend in a griffin do the same thing.
A covert passive targetter, ship scanner, and cargo scanner would be pretty sweet. They might just end up adding 300M to the price tag though.

Sorry Mr Uber Leet Signature Attention Seekin Forum M3GA God. It is my perogative to post as an ALT - live with it or ***k off.
But since its so hard to warp out
Activate MWDs - hit 8km/s - cloak - You think your gonna go from 8km/s to zero in a nanosecond?
Don't tell me your trying to sell these pieces of crap for exorbitant amounts of ISK....

Being able to log on to targets, and then scan them with scanners, would be an nice little feature, that would up what the Covert ops ships can be used for..
Maybe making it so you need to use the "passive targeting" module, while cloaked, to keep being cloaked, when you try to target something.
Some modules you should be able to use cloaked, others should decloak you if you try to use em while cloaked.. ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |

You don't understand how to use cloaking ships. Before you troll someone trying to set you straight, try to think. If that doesn't work, unplug your keyboard.

A Cov-Ops frig is a pair of eyes and a warp point. It's a Scout, pure and simple. That's it. You want to sneak up on ppl and whack em? Cloak a Rupture. You want to sit at a gate or station and call your Corpies in when they have the edge? Cloak a frig. The thing is; Scouts Should Not Engage. If you're looking, do so and the best tool for this is a Cov-Ops but don't expect to be able to turn it into a Light Raider, it's a 'funny', a highly specialised piece of kit for a specific purpose. If it doesn't fit your purpose then you bought the wrong piece of kit. If you don't like the price, wait. Bpcs are just now coming on stream

Sneaking 2 cloaked BS through enemy lines, engaging a camp and then having the fleet warp in while the enemy were jumping the wrong way works too.
But yea, usually it's a scout. And information IS half the war...

Covert ops ships can warp at 13.5 au/sec whilst cloaked and carrying 200+ cargo.
As far as I can see they make even better blockade runners than interceptors. Still not totally unstoppable - presumably you could saturate the volume of a mobile warp disruptor with jettison cans to void the cloak of ships caught in it? - but pretty safe under most usual deep space encounters.
As for combat use, as noted they're scouts - shadowers and BM-makers. Though I have to agree with those that suggest they should be able to use passive targeting.
