I was looking at the daily influence map on COAD and I have a question about alliances on the map.
Looking at the Sov lost and gained I'm trying to figure somethings out.
First, I don't see many of these alliance on the map at all. Arcos Alliance Exxxotic The Chamber of Comm Ultima Rati0 KenZoku Executive Outcomes Blade.
Now at first I thought that color could be matched up with the alliance by region. Exxxotic is the same color as Event Horizon. Blade. is the same color as Goonswarm Arcos Alliance is the same color as The Initiative
The regions and sov gains and lost match up with the respective colors so I assume that those are either weaker allied alliances or corportions within those alliances.
This is what gets me there are these, part of the alliance, corps with in the alliance, puppets...or none of the above?
The Chamber of Comm - Pandemic Legion? Ultima Rati0 KenZoku - Imperial Republic of the North? Executive Outcomes
That doesn't seem to match up anywhere, so I'm not sure if my assumptions are valid or I'm just completely wrong. Are some of these alliances just so insigificant in the scheme of things that they don't show up maybe?
I'm new so be gentle.

Edited by: Eventy One on 03/06/2009 22:48:37 If they've lost sov and they don't hold any sov currently - they won't show up on the map.
In game you can see who has what Sov using your in-game map.

yes. there are many alliances that don't even factor into 0.0.

the alliance that are still on the map that you are refering to either have no sov or one or 2 system which will give them a dot but no massive blob,
the colours that you are refering to as with other alliance , this isnt the case
the colours you see on the map show no affiliation to any other alliance , this map doesnt show that kind of detail.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. People responded but didn't clear up my confusion about the colors.

Edited by: Xtreem on 03/06/2009 23:08:45 You tend to only get on the map when you have an outpost system and a few systems around it iv noticed.
As leadership in exxxotic we have had sov in fountain almost a year now, and never shown up lol even with 5/6 sov level 1-3 systems, one day... one day :D
/edit/ thats why we like doltan better atm, we get noticed on there a bit better lol.. we will like them both when we get our own blob on it :D

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/alliance/ shows you exactly how many systems each alliance holds.
Clicking on KenZoku shows they have a few in Delve and Querious. On the big map, this is in the GoonSwarm blob. Note that not all the systems in the yellow GoonSwarm blob are yellow themselves. Any that aren't yellow, aren't held by GoonSwarm (but the majority are, so they still have the blob, I guess). ----- I'm a collector! Want to trade? See my Collection List and contact me. |

Stations carry more "weight" in the influence calculation.

it not about what size of sov you have it about the constilation sov and the surrounding constilation sovs of the alliances next to you for example our alliaqnce has conquered the region of immensia and we are gaining allt he constialtion sov for the entire region and that why we show up on the map
if you have 1 or 2 systems next to a large regional alliance you wont show up

The map is biased from the point of the maker as some alliances hold sovereignty in a number of systems yet are not visible on that map as having clout, good enough k/d ratio or what have you that determine who gets the colored blots?
Some alliances are fine with that as they'd rather grow in obscurity I'm sure whereas others can't have large enough swats assigned to them to stroke their egos.
A link to a post where the premiere mapmaker explains how the coloring works exactly would be most welcome.

Edited by: Verite Rendition on 04/06/2009 05:05:50 As someone has already mentioned, the coloring system is not based on any kind of allegiance. The colors I use are picked based on visibility - they're all high contrast colors that are clearly separable from the other colors, even on a poor quality monitor. My goal with the map colors is that it should be easy to tell where once alliance's influence ends and another alliance's influence starts. So the fact that two alliances have the same color has no bearing on their relationship, I wouldn't even have a way to know what their relationship is anyhow. And with so many alliances in the game, it's simply not possible to give everyone their own color that's reasonably separable, not even taking in to account contrast.
As for how influence is calculated, indeed stations have a much greater effect on influence for an alliance than simply holding systems. ConSov awards a further bonus to all affected systems, since such space is even harder to knock someone out of. It's probably not a perfect system compared to drawing it out by hand, but it's regular and unbiased. If you don't have any stations but the people near you do, you probably don't have as much real influence on the space as you believe anyhow. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Thanks for explaining everything so clearly. I realized the reason a noob such as my self has a problem with this map is because I didn't know how it worked.
I know this isn't really possible on the map but is there a website that lists the greater alliances such as EDIRC, NC, GBC...I don't even know what alliances they are composed of I just know for sure that they are composed of different alliances and corporations.
I realized after reading COAD and watching the influence map for near a month that I'm not much closer to understanding the complex political situation in 0.0. I don't know who is hostile with who, what areas the primary hostile actions are happening with the exception of Querious.
Is there anyway thing I can tap into so that in 6 months when I have a good grasp on this game I can approach the 0.0 scene without being a ignorant noob?
