Sort of following the topic I posted, can a Rifter be set up as an anti-inty ship? AC's won't cut it if the inty pilot can stay at range...or should I be looking at something along the lines of a Vigil? (keeping Minmatar trained alt in mind). Thanks in advance.

Yes he can be a very effective anti inty ship. But then a bestower can be fitted as a wery effective anti rifter ship. Just look up Battle Bestower in google.

lol @ random battle bestower comment.
Anyway, a Rifter with mwd, scram and ACs can be pretty effective against inties. Overloaded, the mwd gets you to 4km/s or so, which is enough to catch any inty (including those that stay 25km away) with some decent maneuvering (the reason why taranis is the best ship for inty vs inty combat).
Vigil is better for catching them, but I don't think the tank is enough for ships like Crusader and Crow.
Just stay away from Taranises (?) and you'll be fine.

Edited by: Intigo on 04/06/2009 15:28:48 Cheap and effective anti-inty setup:
[Rifter, Cheap, Buffer + Neut] 400mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Pseudoelectron Containment Field I Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Warp Scrambler II Phased Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters Stasis Webifier II
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 5W Infectious Power System Malfunction
This will take care of most inties that get into range of you and still goes ~3.8k without implants when overloaded. With good piloting you should be able to take care of almost any Interceptors. Requires good skills though.
If you want a fit that's a little bit easier to fit, you can downgrade to a 200mm plate and use:
[Rifter, Cheap, easier to fit] 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Pseudoelectron Containment Field I Gyrostabilizer II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I Phased Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 5W Infectious Power System Malfunction
It only gives you a slight DPS boost (20-25) with the Gyro II though, but some people are crazy about such things.
The neuts are great counters to Inties. Crusaders, any blaster boat - they all rely on cap heavily.
Edit: Worth noting also, the 2nd fit is quite a lot faster, just around 4.1k before implants when overloading. The 400mm plate setup is just very efficient as people rarely expect you to have such a big buffer on a Rifter. ___________________

The Ranis isn't impossible if it's either low on cap already or you get a good start and kite them at range with Barrage (and they have the wrong ammo loaded).
That's a lot of ifs, certainly, but they are by no means impossible. Just getting a few seconds headstart means a ton in Interceptor 1on1s, so don't count anything out. For example, if you get a Ranis to follow you to a planet / belt and he warps in at 0, while you warp in at 10. Overload + web scram and he will never have the chance to activate his MWD and close the distance. Just keep at range while you take him down. ___________________

Lots of low-skillpoint Interceptor pilots out there (including me lol)... so don't stay away from taransies(sp?), you'll meet guys who don't have perfect gunnery and drone skills.

Yeah, to be honest, considering the price of a Rifter, it's worth a shot. I know they can be kept at the edge of web/scrambler range, but all it takes is for them to get a few km in and you're dead. I know I wouldn't be afraid to engage if I was the one flying the Taranis

Edited by: Kessiaan on 04/06/2009 20:42:54 It depends.
I can see it being possible against an Ion Taranis shooting antimatter with some fancy and clever flying.
A neutron Taranis shooting null, I just can't see it happening, ever. Especially if the Taranis is plated itself. Unless the inty pilot is an idiot, of course.
However, given that a good interceptor costs over 50 million ISK and a good Rifter costs about 5 million ISK, I'd still go for it. |

Terrible Taranis spotted. What a surprise.
Edit: Also, if http://www.battleclinic.com/eve_online/pk/view.php?type=player&name=Khornne&id=6435766&page=1&filter=losses#mail that is the Rifter in question, your fit sucks ass. |

So if a fail fit Rifter can kill a fail fit Taranis, then a properly fit and well-flown Rifter can kill an average Taranis. It's all down to barrage and having good range when the shooting starts. By the time the 'ranis crawls to optimal he's already in trouble, the rest is skill.
