I'd like to hear some suggestions on this as well. The one suggestion I can make myself is that you check the websites of the providers in your area. Most major providers offer a coverage map that shows you approximately how much service you'll get in a particular area. From my experience, they're usually pretty accurate.

yea, i checked all the major providers, $60 a month! for a 5 gig cap on monthly download! or i can get like, 250MB for $40. i wanna know if i am missing something, i feel like i could hit that 250 MB cap quickly, any program that will measure your bandwidth usage? |

250MB will cover your email and some web surfing. For EVE playing you'd need a few gig, even assuming you dont download the patches via it. You're in the US im guessing?
This should be in out of pod though tbh. |

Verizon is the Monopoly of choice out where I am in Colorado.
I have been using their PCMCIA cell modems or tethering my Samsung i760 to my laptop. Either have plenty of bandwidth for Teamspeak/Vent as well.
An additional $15 to be able to tether my phone, then it just uses my regular data plan (unlimited).
$45 a month for the cell modem that runs at EVDO speeds, typically around 250kbps for downloads and no cap.

I dunno, no expert, but i was assuming EVE used significantly more than general web browsing, which the 250mb plan would barely cover.

As someone else pointed out already, its pretty low bandwidth use. If you stay out of fleet fights I'd say the 250mb will last around a month of 4 hour days.
Just don't download the patches.

yea, in S Korea i here they have GB/s internet and japan has free wifi everywhere. so i guess the question now is, how much MB/H (megabyte a hour) does eve use? |

Well if i were you. 1. get a laptop with a better VGA...remember you can't upgrade laptops graphics....not really. 2. friend had an aircard.... when was 2.4ghz with at&t. Depending on where you live... the signal might not be that great so whatever provider you're using find someone wit ha phone that uses that same service to check transmission. Further more some of those aircards run as much as lower end broadband service...so in that case what's point? Minus of course if you travel a lot. 3. Wifi is more stable so even if you do have a good signal where ever your residence is.... it is of course subject to irregularity. 4. I forget what security concerns there are with aircards.... honestly don't remember what precautions you need to take. |

I would advise against ANY wireless connection for any kind of networking purpose, period... Unless you are a masochist who absolutely loves losing your ships/RL cash due to packet loss and unordered frames. |

Honestly, do NOT get a broadband aircard from any major cellular provider. Sure, it'll work fine, and tend to have good speeds if you've got a strong network, but the monthly bill will be astronomical. Most cellular companies (Sprint, Verizon, ATT) have a 5gb limit per month with the $60 you pay. Anything over that will be an overage, between 5 to 50 cents per mb. I've had customers (I sell cellular stuff for all three) that said they've played maybe 15 hours on WoW, and now they have a bill of 300 bucks.
I couldn't tell you how much data EVE will use per minute (maybe someone can, I've always wanted to know) but if you play a few hours a day, you'll be selling your blood to pay that bill.
