This game will, probably, be no different. We can always hope but every single MMO that has been released in the past year or two has been more than a waste of time.

Tabula Rasa had a pretty cool intro as well. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Edited by: Rassja on 07/06/2009 18:13:26 My theory on MMO's is if they have to slap a known label on it, its probibly crap.
anything good and origional should be able to stand up on its own legs.
that having been said, slapping Star wars on the box will guarentee them huge sales. if anything has a hope of beating wow for sheer subscriber volume, its gonna be this. :/
Even if what little gameplay footage ive seen makes me think bioware is trying to do "mass effect online" with a diffrent name....
and yes, i will try it out, if for only that its actually another scifi mmo (my gods!)
speaking of Tabula Rasa, i heard Richard Garriot (creator) is sueing NCsoft over how they handled (read, ruined) TR for around 30 million.
TR was a cool game but was pushed out waaaay to early. they finally had it fixed and fun right around the time that NCsoft decided to pull the plug. of course, by then the terribad reputation already existed.

KOTOR I and II were great games.
If the MMO versions are anything like it, then yes...it will be awesome. ___________________________________________________ Idea: Train 3 alts at the same time solution. |

Given what Sony did to SWG, i would also be very skeptical about any new SW mmo... or any SW IP, at this point... until i'd head that BioWare was handling it.
KotOR I had some issues, but was a game a played repeatedly for years. II was ruined by the publisher and not done by BW, but you can see early on how they improved BW's system in a lot of ways.
Between lessons learned from success of I and the fail of II, and Mass Effect, i think BioWare is well-equipped to handle the KotOR MMO. It will inevitably have a huge draw from the name alone, and its ability to insulate me from the WoW-kiddies (or kill them xD) will be important, but if they do it right, i will have 2 mmos i keep, and both of them will be sci-fi based. With a little luck, i can spend the rest of my gaming life never seeing another dancing elf. Tho i suppose dancing Twi'lek will be rampant... ah well. Can't win 'em all.
Maybe CCP could do ship combat for bioware, and bioware can handle WiS for CCP |

That is the issue though. The IP is still handled by Lucas and it's restrictions were one of the major reasons bioware did mass effect instead of another SW game. I hope lucas & friends have learned their lessons, but considering how the franchise has developed in recent years, I'm not too optimistic.
Bioware has done great story based games in recent years, but a single player game and a MMO are different beasts. Their games have been pretty awfully balanced(kotor especially), but that didn't matter in a single player game. In an MMO, that is a serious issue. Especially since jedis are overpowered in the lore, so they will have a hard time to do them justice or make them OP. That could be acceptable in a PvE focused MMO, but it doesn't bode well for the player interaction part of the MMO.
I watched a few of bioware devs describing the meaningful story the game will have and not sacrifice anything for it. You know that is BS. You know a dev has to make choices on what to focus develpment on or we would have had WiS/industry expansion/atmospheric flight/sov fix/ect. long time ago. I also have a hard time seeing what does it matter in the endgame or what the endgame is. Just a storyline where you choose your side, choices between different NPC factions or just a storyline with little real consequense?
I do like bioware and their games and believe they can bring storytelling in a MMO in a way never before seen, but a good story isn't enough in the long term. It would take insane amounts of constant content updates to even try and keep people interested on just that. And if their singleplayer games are any indication, it takes a day or two to fully explore all the content it took months to make.
I'm sure they will make a nice working game, but it will be interesting to see how well they do and what direction they will take the game. |

Woah Skippy, don't knock TR. Granted, it was an MMO with some major flaws and in dire need of some updated content but it also had some really great ideas and a refreshing take on combat mechanics. It was good, if only had been a little better.... ='(
