I'll enter on the condition I can have the ISKies instead, could a compromise be made for non-MS pilots? Cheers...

Anyone may enter and we would try find a working solution in the event of you not being able to fly the ship.
As for the oh or zero, it's zero. You can always copy-paste the code if you want to be 100% sure it gets correct. |

Chribba, I recently sent you the ISK for 5 tickets with a copy and pasted reason from your instructions.
As there have been server problems today is that why I cannot view my ticket purchases?
They were bought with the posting char.

I noticed that the imports were failing a few times as well due to the API server being overloaded. We're down to the final ~100 tickets now so we should have a winner drawn in a few hours hopefully. |

"How will a winner be picked and how can we verify the winning number? As there will be somewhere around 1,500 to 2,000 tickets in total I've chosen to simply put all the pilots into a database, and upon picking winner simply running a select statement ("select pilot from tickets order by newid()" - MSSQL), and the name that comes up is the winner."
Chribba my man thanx for the lottery and it's even nicer knowibg it is being run by a reputable character..but... why not use a daily stock exchange figure or however it is done just to, I don't know, remove 100% of doubt that the winner is not your niece/nephew. PLus its a little more fun that way somehow. In this case it would have slowed the lottery by a few hours but you know what I mean. cheers

The main reason to that is the way the "tickets" are stored. There really are no ticket numbers, you could compare the method I use to writing down the name of the pilot on a piece of paper and put it into a huge bowl.
So if you buy 1 ticket you write your name on one piece of paper and put it in, if you buy 100 you do the same but 100 times, when the winner is drawn you simply shake the bowl a lot and pick one piece and that is the winner.
Using a stock exchange kinda needs you to assign each "ticket" with a number since you would have the winner by the last digits of some stock (or similar, I dun work the stock market so I'm a noob there). Plus you would have to wait for the stock updates compared to now when a winner can be drawn as soon as all "tickets" are in the database.
I'm far from an expert in the area of stocks but my feeling is that my method generates a more random winner as you could speculate the stock if you're good at it I think? |
