Um...how bout some info... Like what you want to use it for and what race you can fly, etc.
That's like saying, I need a ticket...

Welcome to universe, kezz.
I don't even see yer picture yet, so cannot really say what race ye be..
But with 300k credits ye should able to get decent frigate. Before ya buy, make sure ya have teh skills.
If you're minnie, then look for good Rifter deal. For gallente I would reckon Tristan. But if ye be caldari, go for Merlin. If yer amarr, you don't prolly find a good ship but try Punisher or Crusifier..

I'd recommend a Merlin or a Kestrel.

kessies are also an option being caldari, they pack a punch with lights and are good to make isk doing level 2 agent missions should be able to get one for about 130k leaving you some money to play with

The merlin is the toughest standard frigate in the Caldari fleet, but as Jim suggested, the Kestrel is a very good choice of ship for a starting player. It has a fair cargo hold, making it useful for courier missions, and it's 4 missile hard points and good bonuses means it's very effective with light missiles. It has no turret points so is unsuitable for mining, but as a fighting character, that's probably not on your "wants" list
The cost is also not too high, around 130,000 isk, so should leave enough change to equip and arm it. Try 4 standard launchers with Bloodclaw missiles (Turrets & Bays -> Missile Launchers & Ammunition & Charges -> Missiles -> Targetted) in the hi slots, 1 Microwarp Drive (Propulsion -> Propulsion Subsystem), 1 Small Shield Booster (Shield & Energy -> Shield Subsystem) and a Small Cap Battery (Shield & Energy -> Enery Upgrade) in the mid slots, and 1 Ballistic Control System (Turrets & Bays -> Weapon Upgrades) and a Nanofiber hull mod (Hull & Armour -> Hull Upgrades) in the lows.
I don't think all that will fit as standard but it's a good starting point. In combat vs NPCs, you'd want to sit at just under 25km, lock your targets and begin firing, then turn on the MWD and make sure to keep the NPC ships at that distance. If the frigates get closer, their turrets will hit you, and as long as you're moving away from them, their missiles won't hit you either. That won't work on NPC cruisers or elite frigates, but for Lvl 1-2 missions and NPC frigates in 0.5-1.0 systems you should have no trouble. Good luck, and welcome to Eve.

merlin is about the best caldari frig. 1x 150mm hybrid gun 1x 125mm hybrid 2x missile launcher brings in more than enough firepower. Oh, I suggest you add afterburner or mwd to give some additional speed
I never said I was healthy |

Edited by: Bladian on 15/09/2004 13:01:12 Yes, i have to agree the Merlin and Kestral are both fantastic ships..I would suggest using the Merlin though.. It is in my opinion the best frigate class ship in the game for combat. If you intend to do alot of Agent missions, the Kestral is also good but your hard earned money will be better spent on the Merlin type Frigate.

Edited by: Julien Derida on 15/09/2004 13:51:14 I must disagree with the Merlin love in this thread. The Kestrel is BY FAR a better ship. Light missiles do more DoT than rails, and tend to have better range (depending of course on the ammo you use in the rails). ----------------------------------------

the next question you should ask yourself (for caldari) is do you want to use rails or missiles... then from there decide on the ship, rails use merlin, missiles use kestral, then for your eventual cruiser moa for rails, and caracl or blackbird for missiles, but i am afraid for battleships you will be using missiles... you can try and fit a good setup on a scorp with rails but good luck with its powergrid.
if you plan on staying with caldari ships take the kestral -> caracl -> either battle ship root, that way you are fimiliar with missiles, since that is what caldari are gods with.

Wouldn't agree with mr Orzoz here. I basically skipped cruisers alltogether (However, a bb and a rax can be used effectively.. some ppl even go so far as to claim that a maller can be good too), went from frigates to interceptors and when I recently couldn't find a reasonably priced crow, I bought a raven. What it comes to frigates, my advice would be to get minnie frig skill and buy a rifter. However, if you want to get an interceptor in the future, go for taranis or crow, they are the best atm. Well, they say im just a noob so i might be talking outta my a$s. ;)
Edit: the bad thing about a rifter is that it has only 2 medslots so you cant get propulsion, a web and a scrambler in, however, its speed is ok(ish) for a standard frig.
