Ok, so I've done 16 L4s, time for a nice jucie faction standings increase.
But no, keep getting this Materials For War Preparations mission, which gives really low standings increase.

Shouldn't the story line mission vary a bit more?
Anyone else keeps getting crappy storyline missions?

They should just change the storyline missions to something actually exciting that's worth doing 16 mission for.
So far all I've got is stupid trade missions like that and really easy kill missions.
I mean the missions basically say:
"You've done the Minmatar Republic great service! And for that we entrust you with a very important mission that is of utmost importance! The Minmatar Republic is counting on you! Will you head our call and gather...
*dramatic pause*
10.000 Omber!
Now go quickly! Our fate lies in your hands!"
The first time I got the mission I remember thinking that I had somehow missed EVE being a humorous game that's actually a parody on other games out there, but that surely that must be the case because developers could not seriously put a mission like that in for a serious game. Guess I was wrong....

They seriously should remove this silly mission or change it into an actual mining mission with the non-buyable ore. ---

You are not alone in your plight!
I used to suffer this inequity from the great overlord RNG, who rules over all of us. Yes, I too, had to wade deep in the dredge we know as kernite, again, and again, and again.
Like Job before me, I cried: Why me! The only answer the almighty RNG had for me, was: MftWP, MftWP, MftWP, though occasionally he would send a Transaction Data Delivery (TDD = 2,5%) my way too, just to give me false hope, I suspect. To make absolutely sure I knew that I was indeed cursed, he even sent my alt Shipyard Theft after Shipyard Theft, intermixed with Covering your Tracks and A Case of Kidnapping.
And so, for us who are cursed by the great RNG, the road to 9.9 is a great many times longer and rockier then for the blessed.
But fear not, for even though it might take a long time, a &%/ñ%& (&%% %/%/%% "#ñ%ñ !!!-ing long time, the tide does turn. Eventually.

Oh god no. Well, if it became an 8% mission through that change, well, okay, that'd be great.

Whaaaat??? are you mad? No really, what's wrong with it? you buy ore at the same station where the mission is given, spend 1.5-2 mil and 5 mins of your time and get an implant worth 16 mil plus a huge standings increase. This is my favourite mission after recon1. What kind of people are complaining? Roleplayers?

You DO NOT GET A ****ING HUGE STANDINGS INCREASE, THAT IS THE ****ING PROBLEM!! Are YOU ****ing crazy?
Sorry, got a bit emotional there. It's because not too long ago, out of 20 or so storyline missions, that's 320 or so regular ones, 12 or so were MftWP, and the rest TDD, another worthless mission.
Do you not realise that, when I get only MftWP, in order for me to get the same standings gain as you get from ONE good storyline like Shipyard Theft, I have to do 19 MftWP to make up the difference. I just have to say that again, so absurd is your question.
That's over 300 regular missions, that I have to do, to get the same standings gain as you get from ONE good storyline, or 16 regular missions.
Do YOU see what the problem is now?

Preface: This is WAAAAY too small a sample to have significance statistically, but I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.
Lately I've been raising standings with several different corps. With each new corp, the very first storyline I get is Transaction Data Delivery. The second is Materials For War Preparation. The third varies; I've gotten A Special Delivery (the 40k m3 courier that's worth as much as a regular storyline), Covering Your Tracks, or Shipyard Theft. But the first two have repeated with 4 separate corporations. Is RNG having fun with me, though less than some others? ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Wait till you got the lvl5 version of material of war :). Well at least it gives a lvl5 implant and some real standing increase :) . Downside is hauling 12000 m3 into lowsec.

The low standings return is actually player driven.
If the players changed how they do this mission, it too could be giving 8.75% (social 5) standings change for a level 4 storyline mission.
So what is it players are doing which is lowering the standings returns from this mission? Well, they accept the mission and complete it in under 30 secs. This then automatically has eve decide its an easy mission and starts reducing the time to complete, and with it the reward/bonus/standings given by the mission. I noticed it was down to 12 minutes last time I did it. Cosmos mission suffer the same problem - fast completion for handing in tags = close to no standings reward.
You can't blame ccp for what the players are doing with this mission. If you want to help, accept this mission, complete it a few days later. Slowly the players could turn the low standings around if they started doing this. Will it happen? Not likely as players prefer to whine and complain than do something. |

Im one of the ppl that complete mat for war in seconds- i even buy the ore on the warp to the station to save even more time. I dont get the mission much, i usually get shipyard theft.
For those who havent noticed yet- agents have a particular set of missions they are likely to give over and over and over- And its the same with storylines.
Dont like the storyline your agent gives you? Work for another agent- yes its that simple |

WRONG. My alt I mentioned above, was getting all the good missions from the SAME agent I was getting the crappy mission from. |

Of course you can blame CCP, just like you can blame them for any other problem ultimately caused by game mechanics, be it ship/module stats, drop rates and drop types, or npc goods. Humans, as a mass, will always flow like water, along the path of the least (perceived) resistance. Didn't Asimov teach you that much?
What individuals do doesn't matter, unless they can change the general perception. Though contrary to what most of those in the lead think, or "Great Man" worshippers think, that is never done by one person alone.
Even though I know it's completely useless, I too, used to leave the mission open until I neared the next one. But it is like....fighting windmills, or something.

Ah the great Autoballancer strikes again.
It is faulty concept that makes good missions better and bad missions worse. It cripples trade mission rewards. It makes FW missions unrewarding. But it stays because a) CCP is lazy/incompetent to do some pre-ballancing to set margins b) some CCP head honcho had this badly though out idea and refuses to admit its stupidity.
The missions are not equal. Some are bad some are good. Some just plain suck. The game is not ballanced in this regard. Happens. Making stuff suck makes it more real.
The whole irony is it is the mighty Autoballancer that is responsible for this imballance :)

Had this out with the GM's on one of the (far too) many occasions I've had this mission.
As far as they're concerned it seems the isk reward more than justifies the minuscule amount of standings gain, and this is working as intended.
If I had my conspiracy hat on, I would suspect from that sentiment that the mission is deliberately a "standings-sink" in that it soaks up many story-lines and returns practically no standings gain, in order to keep loads of characters from all hitting 9.99 faction standings too soon...

That makes some sense and explains why the mission gives such low rewards, but it does not explain why the mission (apparently) comes up so often. |

Edited by: Traska Gannel on 10/06/2009 19:09:16 Ah - but is there a correlation to something else in your gameplay that gives the dreaded "Materials for War Preparation" which I too have received 3 out of the last 4 times from the dreaded Storyline agents in Haatomo (sp?). Could it be that the nearest Storyline agent to your favorite mission running hub is simply atrocious? I haven't tried this so perhaps all Storyline agents will give the same results - however, what if you find a Storyline agent associated with a department or corporation that offers combat missions and then do your 16th mission with an L4 agent close to your desired Storyline agent ... could that work? I know that when I received a combat Storyline mission it was from an agent associated with Caldari Navy rather than the Propel Dynamics (haul 40k :)) or Caldari Provisions (?) (Materials for War preparation ...).

Yeah I think a change is in order. Even though it is a 2 minute mission worth about 16m isk, it does get on the nerves.
I'd like to see the storyline agents take into account what type of mission you completed to get the storyline mission and hand out a mission accordingly.
So for instance lets say i did 10/16 combat missions, I should get a combat storyline mission. |

Amazingly, I just got a storyline mission that I've never seen before (the Insorum Hijacking), after having done probably thousands of missions. MfWP is so common and the other ones are so rare... I don't understand why. They should all be set to be equally likely. |

I like to keep my faction standings at roughly the same level. This storyline is the only one I don't decline because the standing change is insignificant. I think you need a new definition of huge.

Agrees with this. I've never gotten a single lv4 storyline that wasn't "materials for war preparation" or "transaction data delivery". So, that's why my faction-standings are taking forever to grind? Makes me a sad panda |

I also get this mission quite often, but because my standings are high I get no standings towards the faction that I am doing the missions for.
I only need another 0.07 (currently on 9.83) standing to get the 2 run Battleship offer.
