I've been having some problems locating wormholes recently. I'm a fairly new player, and a few friends and I thought wormholes would be an interesting thing to try. I bought a Heron, fitted it up and went looking in high sec for a wormhole and to my surprise found about a dozen or so nice ones with absolutely no problem.
Then I started reading up on wormholes more and found that most people don't use a strict exploration ship like the heron or buzzard and instead just toss a standard core probe launcher on their battleship and they're fine. So I did the same, and no luck...couldn't find any wormholes.
So I figure I just don't have the skills yet to be tracking down wormholes in a ship that doesn't give passive bonuses as well, head back to base grab my exploration ship and head back out...and nothing. I have searched through about 40 different systems, high, low ,and null and have only found one wormhole, and it had already been cleaned out.
I don't know what could have happened, its the same ship, if anything my skills have gotten better, do I just have rediculously bad luck? Has the wormholes system changed drastically in the last couple days since I first started out? I just can't quite seem to fathom whats going on here |

Those that put a scanner on their BS do so because they can't bring a dedicated scanning ship and due to the bonuses your scan ship gives you will always be better off using that heron.
Some signals are so weak that without those bonuses you will not be able to pinpoint them at all.
Bad luck. That is the only explanation. WHs appearing/not appearing is not related to your ship at all. 40 systems is a very dry lot. I can't explain that one, but I can tell you that I've finally found someoen with worse luck than myself in Eve.
Thanks! If it has a SAVE button...I'm not interested. |

Check your filter settings? Try clearing all your ignored results. Seems out of the ordinary.

I've gone on dry runs of about 15 systems before. When I'm running a ship with no passive bonuses, I just toss a gravity capacitor upgrade (scanning rig) or 2 on the ship and I'm good to go.
Better luck after the next downtime?

I've done both and noticed a huge increase in ease with a rigged buzzard & sisters scan probe launcher. I scan & BM 5-6 sites in a WH in the time it would normally take me to do 2-3 in my plain old ishtar with normal scan probe launcher.
I recommend you continue using a scanning ship and bookmarking, I feel like the time savings is worth switching ships, but then I stay within 10-15 jumps of home base, which is 15 minutes or so of travel time that it costs to use the scan ship. YMMV. |
