So I'm back after a few months break from EVE. I've deleted my main and my brother had created this Amarr RP character when I gave him my account. I figure I'll go with it - I've always liked RP and I've always respected PIE.
Bear in mind I've played this game since release back in 2003 - played a pirate character for over a year and have extensive experience when it comes to game mechanics across the field.
So into the Amarr RP channel comes a character created back in March. If you ask me, supposed the account is as old, that's a player that isn't very dry behind his ears yet. He's Gallente and try to sell us some lasers and we in the channel do a little bit of obvious RP on him (note: Amarr RP can be a bit condescending). This guy takes it to heart and starts calling everyone n00b and he's so very 1337 himself with his 5M skillpoints and 150M ISK. I don't blame him for being offended, even if he should have understood it was just RP, but the way he expressed this is what gets to me.
Which, needless to say, bugged me a great deal. He said himself he had only played for 6 months. Proud a f**k as I am - as everyone who has every played with/against me knows - I tried to tell him character creation dates can be deceiving, and tried to tell him about my old character Nightfang.
Response we got: "n00b!!! I'm teh 1337zor!!! Phear my Scorpian of d00m!"
He went on like this for like 15 minutes. We asked him to leave in a quiet manner - he refused. We tried to argue with him - couldn't be done. All that could be gotten from him was that childish leet-talk. I hate leet-talk, by the way
And it occured to me; this is why people hate pirates. I encountered it all the time back when I played Nightfang. I was a pirate, hence I was surely nothing but a ten year old kid who talked leet smacktalk 24/7. That I killed people was irrelevant, that I scammed them out of their hard earned cash too. I was hated because of the prejudice of me being an immature little fart - before people had even spoken to me.
Beholding the situation from the other side of the 0.0 chokepoints, this makes me wonder whether most pirates actually are like this one? I know for a fact that the vocal minority is.
However, knowing some of the older more respectable and reknown pirates, I know that this is not the case. Even though the bulk may be like the one described above, some of the most brilliant players (and most polite for that manner) I've encountered in this game can be found within the pirate ranks.
I sincerely hope the rest of the EVE community can look past the horde of leetsmackers and look to individuals such as Paddyman, Seleene, Zarquon Beeblebrox and Viceroy instead. People like them, and many many more, deserve respect for more things than just being successful at what they do. I'm afraid many have already judged them based on kiddos as the one above.
Which is tragic, but understandable.

Welcome back, Nightfang/Meehan.
Yeah, I guess it's true, but then again it's not just the pirates (though there the problem is most in your face). There's lots of immature players running around the galaxy.
Good luck with the RP angle. Always good to see people getting into that.

Nightfang/Meehan,
Thank you for the compliment. I always respected you and I'm very happy to hear you have rejoined the community. Surely these boards can only benefit from another intelligent poster.
What happened to your old character? Is it something you can discuss here?
Too bad that you've decided to stick with being an Amarrian slave driver. Seems a waste of such good PvP material.
Give me a convo in game sometime. -

Im that "gallente 1337 fear my scorpion" guy. First of, I searched the logg after "1337" Dident find anything. To bad. Well i can try search again if you want to? Second, The first thing i said in the channel was:
Xoria Krint > y0 amarr, im selling some lasers, Medium and small named, Please convo me if you want them :)
so i dont understand what i did wrong, Just a nice selling offer. And the respond was: Meehan > You consider that an appropriate way to greet a superior Amarr? Xoria Krint > Well i hate amarr, Im banned from empire :) So i guess, Yes? Meehan > Hate Amarr? *splutt* Who's your owner?!
And then the smacktalk was on, He talking about hes nightfang, and i call him n00b alot of times, Sure he is more experiance then me, And so on.. I dient belive you that you had a character that had 17mille sp, If you ask me, All guys in npc corp have a character that have 17mille skillpoints, Or a friend in bs. But im sorry for how i act, and it will not happen again, But please not say that im talking the 1337 ³ber, Sure i do im from sweden. Well take care and good luck with the RP not many plp do that anymore.

Apology accepted
By the way, Seleene, I very consciously deleted Nightfang when I thought I wouldn't return. Stupid thing to do, really, but still my own fault.

Thanks! Charity Regard does all of BDCI's sigs. She's got our personalities down pretty well now. She surprised me with this latest one and I loved it so much that I turned off my rotating siggy for this week to honor it.

OMG... Poor Nightfang. Did you turn off the speakers when you put him in the grinder or did you have the stomach to listen to his screams?
Oh well, fresh start. Good luck! -

Good luck to you too - I might have to try and enslave you someday

welcome back.
And yes, there are far too many wannabe's out there lately.
it's rather distressing, seeing them give a bad name to my former profession. I'd make a point of smacking them down, but to be honest they're not worth the effort involved in activating my guns, much less actually going somewhere to do so. .
