Precedence states that it will be a country from the Southern Hemisphere.
If the world cup is held north of the equator, it has always been a northern country (mostly Europe). If it is held south of the equator, it is always a team from the southern hemisphere (mostly South America).
I doubt this will change. I would hope England could win it, but I have to be a realist, not an idealist. The only thing that works in our favour is that it will be held during their 'winter' months. |

I like U.S. football.
It's fun to watch some drug enhanced dimwit that weights more than a small truck hit another player and make him do two or three flips in the air before he lands on his head with a bone snapping crunch.
Now that's entertainment.
World football is for people that can run and kick and run some more...
Mostly running.
The fans are more fun. They destroy towns and try to kill each other. That, at least, is interesting.

Looking forward to see Ghana and USA play again, some of the most offensively minded teams out there. As well as Turkey, should they make it, a better comeback team is hard to find.
Also watching Italy... lose will be a treat. |

I think american football and the other national sports would be a lot more watchable if the clocks didn't stop all the time. A football team has 11 men per side playing two 45 minute halves with/without extra/injury time. American football seems to have teams of 100s play a 60 minute game that actually takes up to 4 hours. One team (rather than one for offence, one for defence, one for Tuesdays, one for Solstices, etc), playing two 30-45 minute halves (or quarters if it's that important) and clocks that keep running would make it more interesting to watch. Oh and more charts like this please!
The ironic thing is that compared to other sports I consider footballers to be wusses of the highest order, and here I'm holding them up as examples of athleticism. International football is fun to watch though, much more so than premiere league. I was glad to see Barca beat Man U in the Champions League, will be watching in 2010. Eng-ur-lund! |

About 50 million Americans disagree with you.
Also, less talk about American Football vs Proper Football, This thread is about Proper Football. |

Australia and Japan have qualified from the Asian group, so should see some upsets if both are true to the form they produced in the last world cup. ----------------------
