Edited by: Bared Bel'Medar on 16/09/2004 21:08:49 This has been driving me nuts for weeks. All this whining by some parties about "honor".
After seeing how successfully C4 and m0o have "Fought With Honor", I have realized something. Insisting people fight with honor is analogous to being unable to hold your own. Honor is coming out to fight when the odds are semi or actually even. Honor is fighting at all. If your angry because your foe wont fight your way, then its quite obviously because you suck. Fighting the way your enemy wants you to fight isnt honorable... its idiotic. Stainers dont complain about honor, and most CA dont either. If your enemy wont fight a losing battle and gain nothing all that says is he isn't stupid. More to the point, Honor, is all about name and recognition. Dying stupidly may be regocnizable, it may show "bravery", but it remains stupidity.
*EDIT* Thank God Josh is more British than I am. No, thank god I'm more amercan and remember the right "A" word. Analogous... thats the right word
I am Jack's broken moral compass. I am Jack's STILL trapped in eve limbo. maybe not for much longer... |

It's "anachronism".
Honor is all about staying true to yourself and your friends.

Honor isn't something this game contains. so asking someone to fight with honor. or for the honor of your corp is utterly pointless.
People sit behind screens, they have no reason to really care.

this game is an anachronism for "i'm 38 and i'm posting as a 13 year old girl in the Romance chatroom on AOL"...
+ can anyone say Movie-p0opshoot.com ?
there is a fine, but dissasterous line between a fart and a shart. i suggest you make sure which side you want to be on... |

Uhm, isn't "anachronism" when you take the values of your own time and try to apply them to the past? At least here in Sweden...
It has no relevance to the post, but I was just curious how that word got in

What's this honour thing and how much can I sell it for?
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

Edited by: flummox on 16/09/2004 21:29:17 "Honour" is one of the new Caldari MissleBoats coming out in the near/far future... it has a 5% bonus to Missle Speed per frig level and 20% per level to dying easily...

There is a really cool quote from Eiji Yoshikowa's novel Musashi... its been a while since I read it but iirc it is roughly
Quote: "Ettiquite is for the dojo. In war there is only victory or defeat."
I remember when I was a member of the CFS having to listen to people complain that CA had no honor cause they ganked our indies... and a few days ago I got to listen to some CA whine at me in local cause we ganked some CA indies. Phooey on that.
The goal of conflict in this game, imo should be to inflict the most damage possible on your enemies while minimizing your own risk, just like you would in any wargame. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

Edited by: Mon Palae on 16/09/2004 23:29:37 Someone around here somewhere has in their sig something like, "If you are in a fair fight you did something wrong."
To me there is honor in fighting and it does not mean you must engage in fair fights. Honor is not logging off to escape. Honor is not using things like logon ganks. Honor is not doing some of the things that used to happen like endlessly trying to convo an enemy to screw him up. Honor is not smack talking your opponent (a little harmless ribbing is one thing but we all know some go pretty far over the top).
In short, honor in fighting in EVE is playing the hand dealt to you straight up and see where it leads. If you are losing try to run away. If you can't run away take your podding like an adult and get on with life.
If you can bring 100 ships to gank a frig more power to you. If the frig runs away more power to him. All well and good.
Just my opinion.
