All I ever hear is, "Social networks are the main way you find find work" well, mmos are in a way a social network (over looking the fact most people work more to harm you than help you) so, if anyone knows a place that hires recently grad Environmental Science majors, contact me ingame with the info rather not use my email on the forums, cause for ever person that would help, theres twice as many trolls |

did that 3 weeks ago, check them every other day, and get weekly emails (monesters recommendations system sucks, recommends hospital nursing jobs because they put environmental cleaning in the description, careerbuilder is at least reasonable)

There are a LOT of jobs out there and they are easy to find.
There are virtually no careers available right now. |

i did environmental science at uni focused on air pollution and modelling its effects.
My experience with finding a job was very tough at the time, the only real employer was the government agencies for graduates (EPA in the US, EA in UK for example). For the consultancies where the good money is made, they were only interested for the most part in people with experience but some did offer internships so you can get the experience (the nasty vicious circle I hated about finding a job and my first career).
Almost of the consultancies were EIA consultants with some specialists on groundwater assessment were common in the UK so if you focused around that area, there is normally more work in the private sector from my memory at least.
One possibility is more research if you can handle it, in the end I was leaning towards a pHD as it seems everyone nowadays had a degree and you needed something to set you apart.
The UK EA at least has a few jobs on offer you could try for.
The one thing I would throw in, is that the skills of maths and logical application/thought processes taught in at least my course can be applied to other careers quite easily so you could extend your search to other fields.

You think? I am sure that if Chronotis is a developer - not just someone with an EVE dev team logo - that it took him a little bit more than just the study of environmental sciences to get his job. But perhaps you are right and he just got lucky. There is always luck ...
I will never understand how someone can chose a major without knowing what to do with it at the end. When I studied we had courses to prepare you for your career, we had job boards and companies visiting the campus. How is it possible to miss all that? |

I know a quite a few ppl who had everything all planned out for their careers, then the current economic crisis hit.. downsizing sucks... ESPECIALLY for ppl with little to no real world experience in their fields. |

this, especially in the UK
plenty of jobs going, none that'l get you anywhere though
the only careers going are in the armed forces and even that might not be true for long, with some people waiting up to a year to get the placement they want.

yeh, people figure they can put off having a new nuclear reactor built, but damned if they're not getting pizza delivery.
This years chemical engineering grads from my school had a 10% employment rate. That's 90% unemployment. What the ****. In before Ralara. |

I live in Texas, and I think you might have some luck with the oilfield companies with a degree like that. Environmental impact analyst or some such job title...something like that.
I'm just guessing and throwing stuff around, but its worth looking into. |
