Ah, here is the issue.
You are one of the the ADHD teens that hates anything that takes too long. I guess having to think ahead more than a few days makes it feel painful. I'd guess you are perhaps even over 18 as you have successfully proceeded past the first kid-filter of EVE - the skills that take more than a day to train ("WTFOMG what you mean if I train this skill it won't be done tomorrow when I play after school? THIS SUX").
It is a nice "filter" to get out most of the kids and other bad players that you need to make long term training plans and wait months before you can fly caps and other fancy ships. For older players, thinking ahead 3 months or 6 months is no big deal - you just do what you can do today and plan ahead so you can do what you want in the future. For kids, a week is like an eternity. It has something to do with age - older you get, your perception of time changes. Kids want instant gratification and lesser games try hard to give it to them (see: World of Warcraft and free purplez for bad players)
I can recall myself going nuts on having to wait for some game or movie or something that wasn't going to come out for another 6 or 9 months when I was a teen (over ten years ago). Now it's like "ah well, something to look forward to in 6 or 9 months whenever those slowpokes manage to get it out". At the same time I've lost the urge to get a game on the day of release or to see the movie on the day of release. Why hurry? It'll still be there in a week or two.
Good luck to you. May you grow older and wiser, and perhaps return to EVE when you are more mature.

So it would only take your company 7-8 days (or less, seeing as you think this is a long time) to be ready to compete in a new market? For instance supplying machine tools? Hydrological Surveying? Could you be up and running with a hydrological surveying department in a week? |

You do know that you can do stuff whilst skills train up? You don't have to stay docked for 7-8 days watching the skills progress bar on your character sheet

So you've done everything in a PvP game...Except the PvP part...

I promise to take care of it and share it with all my corp mates, most who are noobs except for the leadership. For me I joined the game and started off running trade goods through losec right off the bat. This was back when instas were the rage and it paid to make instas for your route, also this was back when solo sniping Tempests were THE pirate ship in losec. I learned how to survive, albeit slowly. I learned how to avoid the pirates pretty well.
After a few weeks I was convoed by a couple month old character who wanted me to join his corp. It was a mining corp so I trained Mining IV and came along on some corp ops. After a week or two that guy quit and myself and 2 other members took over the corp. We were approached by a 0.0 corp that was trying to form an alliance and was desperate enough for members that they'd take just about anyone. They collected quite a few corps.
So we moved out to good ol' Geminate. Our first taste of 0.0. We learned a lot but fighting wasn't really one of those things. After a few months SmashKill decided to steamroll us. It was fun fighting in 0.0 for the first time. Around this same time myself and another member of our corp first tried losec piracy and fell in love. Within a few days we were were below -5 and quickly had to learn how to build hauling alts. This was around when I started FRAPsing stuff and picking fights and filming them took up a lot of my time.
This was when I built my first alt for piracy. Within a week he was ready for a full T1 fit Nos-Vexor (pre nerf nos) and I took him on a long trip through Genesis losec. I ran into 2 multi-year old flashies in assault frigs and killed one of the two before I popping myself. So basically I just roamed losec with both my characters picking fights with whoever would fight.
One memorable night I was roaming losec as usual with a friend. I was in a Myrm and he was in a Celestis (with pre-nerf damps). We both jumped through a gate to see a Reikoku Astarte on the gate...so my friend decloaks and sure enough the Astarte attacks drawing gate fire (for some reason at this point my friend wasn't flashy.) A quick tackle and nossing (and 5 Ogre IIs) and 30 seconds later he was down.
Somewhere along the line I did learn mission running...but really that was just an easy way to make ISK when times are tough, and it's certainly not the only way. Really, you don't "hone your skills" running missions, they're pathetically easy. Half the time I'd be surfing the web and check on EVE every couple minutes to change targets.
So yeah, everybody's path is different and everyone will find something different to enjoy about EVE. My suggestion is to free your mind of such ideas as "greifing" and "grinding" and realize it's a game and the point is to enjoy yourself. Then get out there and enjoy yourself without worrying so much about yours and everyone's "feelings."
Row, row, row your ship gently up the stream Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, EVE is just a dream |

Damn I missed the boat.
Everyone else in EVE is a company director with a nice car and a house and a fit gf and pots of irl cash.
I must be the only unemployed, morbidly obese neckbeard living in mummy's attic (no basement alas) on a diet of fizy drinks and microwave popcorn in the entire game.
I feel ever so lonely now.

Great so you've done what, 10% that there is to do in EVE? And of what you did, besides missioning, you didn't stick at any of it for very long.
And no, your OP is wrong, I was in 0.0 in my first 2 weeks (was fun mining and running from rougue drones in an osprey lol, only pvp'ed a few times in the early days). EVE history
