Manually navigating through multiple waypoints can get a little confusing when you have 3 or more yellow stargates in the overview. Seems like the next system in the route should be a different color (say, green). _____________________________ Cogwheel's Workshop |

Is the listing down the left hand side of the screen, with the next destination conveniently placed at the top of the list, not enough? |

Did i say it wasn't? Is there some reason NOT to implement this kind of change?
A very low-cost change to something that has little impact on gameplay but does provide a measurable improvement in usability seems like a no-brainer to me ... _____________________________ Cogwheel's Workshop |

Edited by: Marcus Gideon on 18/06/2009 19:17:36 I can think of a million other things that the Devs could be working on.
Different colored icons not being very high on the list.
Besides, given how awesome (read: terrible) CCP is with their fixes and new content... the Overview and all the icons would disappear and you'd have to manually aim for stuff and hope you're flying in the right direction.

Actually, since somebody brought it up, here's a pet peeve of mine related to the waypoint list.
When I have two or more waypoints in my flight plan, each presumably a few jumps apart, the next one I'm going to stop at is my current destination, while the last one on the list is my final destination. A minor semantic issue, certainly, but it's still incorrect usage.

Unless we have stuck a window on top of it. But even if it is uncovered, clicking the single yellow gate is quicker than glancing at the next system name then trying to find it in the list of gates. Especially when the name of every stargate starts with "Stargate", so you need a wider overview column for gates than you do for almost every other object on there.
Let me give you an example of how bad this can be:
When I took that screenshot I only had two waypoints set. The first was Oursaleart, the second Villore. But I have three yellow gates when I only have two waypoints set.
I can't see any justification for colouring anything except the next stargate on route. If you wanted to visit your waypoints in a different order, you would have them in a different order.

Irrelevant. It's still a good suggestion for discussion. Whether it's high priority or not is a different matter. I agree with Hesod about the colouring getting quite silly at times. Good UI design isn't about saying 'here's the one and only way of doing this task and it can sometimes be crap'. It's about saying 'here is the way that suits you'. That might require several methods because people don't all work the same way.
For example, I can go Back in a web browser by a total of five different methods. They are indeed redundant. However if I took away the specific one you're used to or that you find intuitive, would you not object because there's another way of doing it? |
