Hello, world.
I posted this thread in General Discussion some time back, but somehow I didn't realize that the crowd I'm catering for doesn't frequent that section (... and with good reason). I'm a web developer with too much time and bandwidth on my hands. I'd use that time to roam about in EVE looking for great fights, but I'm sure we can all agree that they are a sparse commodity.
That's about to change.
For the past few months, I've been developing a service called EVE Arena. In a nutshell, EVE Arena facilitiates for thrilling encounters whenever you'd like. You'll no longer need to set aside an evening's worth of waiting around to find yourself immersed in the roaring autocannons, frantic instructions and exploding spaceships we all love so much.
If you'd rather leave the frantic instructions out, that's cool, too. EVE Arena accomodates for both 1v1 encounters and fleet-based skirmishes. Both divisions are ranked and filled to the brim with features that allow you to find opponents and schedule matches by the click of a button.
There's more to EVE Arena than hours of fun, challenging engagements and unparalleled e-fame, though. There's also money to be earned. Lots of money. To get started, point your browser to eve-arena.com and register an account. Bring some friends and have a great time. If you have no friends, I hear blowing people up is a sure-fire way to make some.
See you there!

I'm not really clear on what you're providing or how it works... can you give me a brief overview?

Surely this describes what EVE Arena provides, Htrag? |

This is a great idea for people who are not after everyday PvP but solo action of group training tactics. 'Why didn't anyone come up with this idea before? Good work!
Everyone who is hooked to EVE TV during the tournaments will want this.
Let's spread the word ! |

Thanks for your enthusiasm, everyone. As Bioso suggested, please spread the word to like-minded people - it's surprisingly hard to advertise EVE Arena to the players it caters for.
In other news, killmail integration is now in development. You'll be able to view an archive of matches played with killboard-esque presentations of ships and equipment. |

Just had my first match, some problems with submitting the result from both parties (You have mail) but all in all this idea could really work. |

Just had my first match and think this might become a new big thing in eve.
It is clear and easy to get a fair fight. It's fun and very affordable. Me likey.
1 vs 1 in hi sec would require a little more standarised rules. - Each opponent flips a can and as both have become red they warp to the arena would be a good one. (Or warp on xx:xx EVE time). - Adding rule that states you can warp in anywhere at the arena (0-100km) would save some questions. - Perhaps add killboard as an extension to the site. |

Thanks for your enthusiasm and suggestions. I'm working on integrating killmails; you'll be able to submit them with a victory and the service will parse through it and present it in a killboard-esque fashion with the match result. I'll update the knowledge base with additional rules (or perhaps suggestions). |

Looks good. While I don't see it being a big problem, it might be difficult to prove that your opponent cheated (for example warping off) without a 3rd party supervisor.
I do like it, and its somewhat similar to the idea I've been working on here.

Edited by: Caelum Dominus on 25/06/2009 13:13:19 The rules for the solo division have been revised. In an attempt to encourage pilots to stay within 24km of each other, matches are now declared void if either pilot initiates warp. |

In my honest opinion it's a great start.
Add a forum to the website so we can get some community involvement etc
Also are fights played on the test server or tranq?

This is on the list, but as I'm not looking to throw on a phpBB-esque thingiee it will take a bit of work.

Looks like a good system. It needs a lot more people, but it looks like a great way to get fun, casual PvP. Seems it'd be great for things like introducing people to PvP and fleet tactics, or getting a killboard established. Well done

Thanks. You're right, it does need more people - unfortunately it's been hard to get the word out to the people it caters for. I plan to suspend EVE Arena in the near future.

Awesome looking website. That said, I don't think people should feature on the ranking list until they have taken part in a fight. Poor Ulic Vos seems to have lost a fight and got bumped down to 201st place, while there are a great many pilots (probably 99% of the ones from 12th to 200th) who have not fought a single battle, so rank higher than him.
Also, have you got in touch with the IC about this? I'm sure they'd be able to put a notice in the news for you :)

Thank you. I've been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and praise EVE Arena has received since it was introduced a month ago, and I'd like to thank everyone that has participated and spread the word.
Alas, you are spot-on in your remark of lacking participants. With CCP and the in-game news committee seemingly uninterested, it seems impossible to advertise the concept to the players it caters for.
Little more than two weeks of the first season remain. It's been fun, but with less than twenty active participants there's little reason to run another. I regret to say that I plan to suspend EVE Arena once the first season is completed.
Real shame there will be no second season. I reckon given time this would have worked:(
Anyway thanks for all the work you put in, i enjoyed my time participating.

I'm confident that the concept has potential. With CCP and the in-game news division unwilling to advertise it, however, EVE Arena will remain undisclosed.
I feel there's little more I can do to advertise the concept to the players EVE Arena caters for. While I appreciate the effort of the participants who have done their best to spread the word, it simply won't do. We need CCP and the in-game news division to give a ****, but they don't.
I feel helpless.
