Hi guys, I thought I would describe my favourite ships and the reason why they are so great, or what and why their weaknesses are.
THE RAVEN
- One of the slowest battleships in Eve, a lumbering beast of a ship.
- Easily one of the largest signature radius battleships ingame, if not the biggest after shield modifications.
- Slow to allign, to tilt and point that massive hull towards its next victim.
- Approximately around the same siz...
...a battlecruiser? uhh ohhh, nvm.
THE MACHARIEL
- A smaller more slimline signature radius
- Easily one of, if not the fastest and most nimble battleship in the game, possible due to it's... uhh...
But doesn't every smaller ship allign fas... move...?
nvm.
*Cancelled, sod this, this is bs*

Sorry it was nothing clever or interesting, I was probably bored or something.
Just a thinly veiled whine about how the Raven is near 5 times smaller then the Macherial but somehow has a massive sig, slow to allign etc...
While the Mach is huge and very fast.
It wasn't a whine about any in particular, just that all other ships in general have speed and inertia roughly based on their size/sig, I would've liked a little more consistency maybe.
It doesn't seem as if they're very descriminating about whats big enough to be called a Battleship.

You see, longer hulls displace water more easily, and are thus faster. See: Hood, Iowa and other fast battleships and battlecruisers contra the shorter, stockier super dreadnoughts of the first world war such as the Revenge and New York classes.

The term is 'aspect ratio', and to a lesser extent 'cross sectional density'. Also holds true for external ballistics... Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam.

The sad thing is, with EVE's physics, that almost makes sense...
Just remember, there's another way to get speed/agility, besides reducing your mass: increasing your thrust. Raw power will get you the performance you want, and if you look at the Machariel, it has no shortage of engines. |

if you zoom out enough, it really doesn't show... :)
or, don't worry much about designer's guesstimizations. it's still just a game.

Revenge was also bulged so perhaps the Raven should have a bonus to torpedo defence.

This is true, the Raven does appear to have anti-torpedo bulges.
Fitting name.

No, it's one of the fastest. No large guns, no plates = low mass. If a bs fleet is warped and didn't allign before, the ravens are amongst the first battleships to enter warp. Everyone who diagrees has no clue or is a liar.
Everyone who disagrees with me has either no clue or is a liar. |

Agility ≠ speed. That is, Caldari ships tend to be slow but agile - hence they do warp quickly. Before the recent agility nerf, you could get a Navy Caracal into warp comically quickly (for a cruiser anyway!).

Caldari ships received an all-encompassing agility buff before that, though.
