Hello. I have another account which has better shield tanking skills and missile skills. This one is fairly new and I thought that I'd use the other account for missions etc, and this one would be my pvp only character. My question would be, what advantages/disadvantages does the races have in pvp. So what race should i go for.

bleh, having pve only alts is so boring. having battleship pilot + falcon pilot is
both characters can do both things, as well everything is very interlinked

Exploration works well since you can have a hacking / archaeology / probing alt in a covops while the main does all the shooty stuff. |

Honestly, it really doesn't matter which race you pick - they're all pretty much equal. Aside from a few very basic skills there's no difference between them. You can train a caldari into minmatar ships in a matter of hours. Pick the race you like, don't worry about bonuses/mechanics.
As for having a PvE-only or PvP-only character... I guess it would depend on exactly what kind of PvE and PvP you're planning on doing, but that isn't necessarily a good way to divide your skills.
If you're planning on doing missions, for example, you'll be training up a lot of combat-oriented skills that would be very helpful in PvP. So you might as well PvP on that character.
If you're planning on doing mining, it makes sense to specialize that character. But then you might want to train some hauler-type skills on the second character, instead of focusing exclusively on PvP combat.
There's all sorts of different flavors of PvE (mining, missions, research, manufacturing) and all sorts of PvP (gate camping, covops, scouting, capitals)... And there's some grey areas in-between (hauling isn't exactly a PvP kind of thing, but you're working for players and not NPCs)...
I wouldn't separate my characters based on PvP/PvE, I'd look for roles and skills that complement each-other.

What race you pick matters little, because you can train for any ship you want no matter what race you are.
And it's hard for us to recommend a career or PVP path to you because we don't know what you like. So, go to this ships wiki and click on the links for Caldari ships, Gallente ships, Amarr ships, and Minmatar ships, and you'll see lots of comments about which ship is cool and which is meh, how they're used etc.
Then make up your mind what you want to do, and pick what ships to train based on that. |

I have a PvE and PvP char / account to I think it's a perfectly valid option even when flying missions.
The only thing that you really have to do is not choose Caldari for PvP. Shieldtanking and missiles don't work very well in fleets. As most ships armour tank and missiles take a long time to arrives especially when sniping.
Minmatar is good for PvP but takes more skillpoints then Amarr and Gallente.
Amarr is currently the best PvP race but this may change. Personally I started with Amarr before the buf to some of their ships and resistance changes that put them in the FOTM position. So it might be that Minmatar get's some love and have their dual weapon systems reduced or something similar. So just pick your choice from Gallente, Minmatar and Amarr look at which ships you like and just go from there. But remember Minmatar will take more time to train. |

Try minmatar. Good pvp race. They use shields and have ships with missile bonuses. But start skilling turrets.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 23/06/2009 10:04:11 There's different kinds of PVP which prefer different 'races'. If you oversimplify it it looks kinda like this;
solo/small gang fast "guerilla" gameplay; minnie, bigger ships are worse solo/small gang short range brawler gameplay; Gallente, good lineup of ships fleet dps: amarr, bigger ships are better ECM support: caldari, shields are a disadvantage in a predominantely armor PVP world
Picking a race just because you spent 4 days of training towards a certain tanking type is the wrong way to do it.

I think I'll go amarr, because I'm probably going to do caldari/gallente with my main. |
