I'm not sure exactly how mining drones are suppose to work. I deploy one and tell it to either mine or mine repeatedly (I don't know the difference) but all it seems to do is fly around. I'm not sure if I'm getting ore from it either. Can somebody help me?

You need to have an asteroid targeted. When you command your drone to mine repeatedly, it will fly to the asteroid you have targeted and mine. When it is full, it will deposit the ore in your cargo hold and go back for more.
Remember to right click on your drone (in it's special drone status window or it's little + icon in space) and scoop it to your drone bay before leaving the asteroid.
Inactive (abandoned) drones can be scooped by other pilots as loot.
Edit: I've noticed that my drone's + icon (and drone name) seems to keep flying and moving about, even though the mining drone itself is attached and mining on the asteroid. Weird stuff that.

I had so much trouble with mining drones that I just abandoned the whole concept... way too frustrating.

ill give u the training i got =]
1. TRGT roid
2. Launch Drones
3. in the drone display rightclick and select all
4.click command /mine repeatly
5.Enjoy
i have dron op and mining drone at lvl2 and all i get is like 3-5 units of ore per drone so its not much....
now when u have a cruiser and have alot of drones then u can mine and hunt =]

With Mining Drones (skill) level 3, my Harvester drones could easily mine 100 units of Pyro before returning it to my ship. I'm not in a cruiser yet since I'm still training and earning for it, but it will be sweet once I get one. :)
Eventually, I plan to be able to control a small fleet of 10 Harvesters with level 5 in my mining drone skill along with the extended drones skill (not certain of the skill's name).

Gabe - You can't pay attention to the small crosses. Those are the home platforms. If you are close to the asteroid you will see the drones landing and mine then the jump back to the home point ( the crosses) and then jump back to the asteroid (mine repeatedly). IF you can't see them ( they look like orangish mosquitos :) hit and hold CTRL and press your left mouse button for zoom
Th drones are easier to see if you are close to the asteroid and it is a small one ( like omber) ( close as in 500m)

Those drones mine nice but look inactive from a distance.
