Edited by: Raivn Akhama on 20/09/2004 07:09:38 From today's New York Times. Many of you have probably read it by now, but here's the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/20/technology/20game.html?8dpc It talks about why the game industry lacks originality so badly, even though it doesn't even mention the small-fry PC branch. It's all about the consoles. :( Certainly explains why CCP isn't taking any bold steps, to put it mildly.
(You'll need to register before reading the article, it's there on the site and free. Reading NYT online is a good thing. ;) )

In holland currently per year the following ammounts of euros are spent on consoles/pc games:
ps2: 731.000 pieces of software total worth 38.2m euro
pc games: 4.700.000 pieces of software total worth 77.4m euro
So I don't see the small-fry pc branch you're talking about. Note though I'm to lazy to register or find a login/pass at bugmenot.com so havent read the article.

Well, I'm happy for Holland, then! Though I wonder how the numbers would change if you figured in Xbox.
And why would you need this bugmenot? It's not like NYT would spam you.

Edited by: Mr Gimlet on 20/09/2004 08:52:23 Dont have any figure to back it up but a story i heard on the news is that here in the uk inflation dropped last month due to the reduction in the price of retail games software. I guess the figures must be pretty big
