Moved from General Discussion - Lomithrandra
The widely popular MMORPG, Earth And Beyond, which went live in Sept. 02, is sadly, ending this week on the 22nd.
Good news for EvE however is that many of these players will be testing EvE, as it is the next closest genre to EnB.
So please join me in the effort to welome those players who wish to try out this great game :)

Does CCP have a special offer to draw them over still or is that deal over already?

Allot of the guys that are there are die hard carebears. They are very pist at EA for closing EnB. I wonder when CCP will shut this game down. Carebears pay the bills so they are good too . I hope this game does not go the EA way. I'm here to stay to the end though. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

No, not going to happen...
I played EnB, and that game seemed doomed from the very beginning due to poor EA management decisions...
EVE may have a lot of gameplay issues, but, for the most part every patch improves the game, and the game is continually gaining subscribers.
EVE should be around for at least 3-4 more years IMHO... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

There was a lot of inter-community flaming during development of these games. Eve was always the underdog... a tiny icelandic company VS large US corporation. I think it's fantastic that Eve finally came out on top - it proves that games can't just adhere to a formula that means it should be technically successful. A work of art like eve is what is needed for

EA seems to be one the worst companies in the games business. They hardly support their own games, if it isn't succesfull enough => Can It. If it is succesfull => make endless yearly updates. Madden Football anyone, SSX and many others. I think the mmo businessmodel isn't really understood by EA. EA understands the Big Hype High X-Mas selling type of games. Apart from Sony, who's mmo started out with a small comp Verant, all the succesfull mmo companies are pretty small. Not a bad thing in my humble view: they seem to be better at keeping in touch with their players.

Agreed completely. It could've been so much. Instead it got rushed out the door and cut off at the knees, when as a half-finished product it didn't meet their immediate expectations. Everything else after that was just delaying the inevitable.
EA may know how to run a massive corporation but they know NOTHING about how to handle a concept that isn't a beaten path with every option already laid out for them. Ultima Online is by no means original, and TSO is circling the drain. As for any of EA's other products, they're either movie/sports franchises or soulless sequels of titles from companies it's swallowed up.
I dunno... if one were to look at the concept of Earth & Beyond and what EA threw at the public, it's comparable to taking the blueprint for a Rolls-Royce and telling the engineers, "Here. Your funding is what you can dig out of the couch cushions. We want this ready and functioning in 72 hours."
After that disillusioning experience, I gotta say I love how CCP runs their show. I'll be around a while to come with the way this game's playing out to me and the changes that are on the horizon.
(though if only they'd make the environment more lively...) ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |

Eve was also rushed out the door a bit... In beta we were still struggling with bugs on the last day and we couldn't believe it was going gold. Then someone told us it had gone gold a few patches ago, and would be released as an earlier version than the one we were playing!
It's still being made to this day. And it still manages to be better than EnB. ------------

The difference is that EVE's got a company that cares if it lives or dies. When was the last time the devs here ever said 'insufficient resources'? Or, of course, said that some simple information (which every player should have known) was classified -- like how in their developer logs right before the end they just clammed up and wouldn't say anything.
EA's idea of running an MMO is something along the lines of this:
1: Rush title out door to beat competition 2: Cut funding to still ensure profit after it starts to lose subscribers. 3: Advertising? What? No, only EA products get advertising, this is just the bastard child of our Westwood assimilation. 4: Relocate devs to other projects and leave those left with all the work. 5: Slash funding again and start to grumble over this product not performing to expectations. By this point, game patches have bugs a mile wide and take weeks to repair. 6: Decide the game is better left buried and shaft every remaining player on the servers. 7: And of course, run like a little girl when asked about it at E3. ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |

Anyone know where I might be able to get ahold of a few of the music tracks from the game? I've got a few cuts, but there are some that I remember that I haven't been able to locate.
