I used to love this ships look, but I have struggled for years to find a good use for it. It makes an ok low level mission runner but the Drake can just do everything better.

its a saw'd off drake, 6 launchers, +1 mid, and 3 light drones and with assault launchers(that it gets a bonus to) it grinds up friggs really well. It also is a great long range nano boat too. I am in Factional Warfare. Have been from day one.-á-áI will never work for a mega corp in null-sec. Do not make FW like null-sec. Were is the FW exclusive frigate sized ship? I see the cruiser and battle ship.......... |

I threw a crapton of isk at one to make a ham lvl 3 boat, was pretty fun to fly too. no use against guristas because of the insane exp velocity their missiles have, but against the turret stuff it was pretty good

It's also the Caldari platform with the best overall mobility-reach profile. Not that it matters much today, but one of the problems with the Caldari boats in days of old was that they were simply too slow to keep up with oldschool SHAC tactics. The CN Caracal managed to hit just above that threshold and still be somewhat useful offensively.
As far as i can remember i held the Rook above it, after it's changes, since it's application still trumphs all other options and the ability to cut yourself free mitigate some of the survival issues. The CN Caracal always was second to that though, doing something worthwhile that wasn't simply better done in a Drake - since it could keep up - while the Osprey had speed but no bang and the HACs had the tendency to fall behind and get caught.
All of this still hold true, with the exception that the world around the ships have changed and there's not much appeal in a kiting platform just above the Tier 3 BC in the speed bracket, yet with half their damage on a delay for twice the pricetag. The Naga have remnants of these problems when you try to shoehorn them into comps with it's peers - thresholds and all that.

It's a hell of a frigate/destroyer hunter, it can clean those in a blink of a eye with no effort.

This. It's basically a missile destroyer. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

Damn you beat me to it.
Hull limited FW plexing does see a large amount of faction cruiser and frigate hulls inside. It's almost like having a T2 ship, and in some cases, better than having a T2 ship. CNIs are known for their good range DPS while the tankers catch as many ships as they can on the warp in. If they're caught though, they're toast.
So yeah, Hrett and I are on the receiving end of the Caldari and see these a bit more than most. -Rock is overpowered, Scissors is fine. |

FW has great use for CNC's, as mentioned above, FW plexes have limited acces and a CNR is a moderated cheap way to get a top ship in. Scares of al sane frigate pilots and dessies.
also because of the way FW plexes are build range has it uses as well.

If you fly it with tackler, like dramiel. Throw in very light nano fit with few target painters and watch those frigates absolutely melt down. |

Could someone give me a fit for flying cosmos mission of lvl 1-2 range for the Navy Caracal please? The set-up I use is basically a passive shield baby Drake and I hate it.

What is forgotten is that many ships are just stepping-stones, usefull only for a few months during a pilot's career. For several months in 2007 the Naval Caracal was my ship. I have found memories of flying her. http://ridingevewormhole.blogspot.com/

But really once the learning skills were done away with it takes even less time to skill into a properly fit newly buffed Destroyer or AF, or a properly fit BC, or even HAC or Tech III. So these ships will remain largely collectors items. The pirate frigs and cruisers though are still powerful and arguably worth their expense. |

It's a toy for people who have the isk and want a better way to do missions on low SP (not counting the drake, obviously), apart from that it can do the solo/small gang nano pvp thing fairly decently. It has enough dps at range, speed and agility (even without a nanofiber fitted) and EHP to work there. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

The only ship in the game that, no matter how much you try, you can['t make a fit for that even makes a modicum of sense. Another showcase of CCP being utterly clueless. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

CNI is a great **** ship, as people underestimate it- and will actally fight you. Once they do, you can exploit and kill.

Don't know why the zealot and inty are on there- they are all solo kills. Killing any turret based BC in a CNI is ezpz
I lost the CNI before the fight happened- some how it ended up on the BR. BUt the rest is just pure ****, all in one fight
