I was just thinking what a great Auxiliary Carrier the Hoarder hull would make!
The idea of an aux carrier would be a relatively (to the capital ship) cheap drone support ship, like such is really lacking for some races like Minmatar. The ship itself should not be able to carry much in the way of direct weaponry.
The basic principle of the idea would be a refitted cargo ship, like the Hoarder, to be able to carry drones and service and direct them.
Some detailed ideas I got for this:
- Hull gives +2 drones to control
- Hull gives bonus to control range
- Needs special Auxiliary Carrier skill, which is of a lesser form than Capital Carrier
- Perhaps the ship can natively repair drones in some way, like a certain amount when they are docked
- Control bandwidth and space for 8 heavy drones?

Sarcasm aside, if it's been suggested hundreds of times over the years, doesn't that mean that the idea is a good one that just hasn't been formed in a way that the dev's feel won't unbalance the game unduely?
Personally, I like the idea - but I'm Gallente, so I like anything that will give me the ability to field more drones...

course id love to see indy to warship conversions in the form of Q-Ships. Badger Mark II with a Cerberus under the hood but idents on scans as Badger Mark II. |

the idea of jeep carrier like ships would be great for all us Drone *****s, personally this also needs to accompany a revamp in the drone system and the carriers in general, carriers in modern warfare are the "Heavy End of the Hammer" so to speak their fighters and ECM and Radar planes dropping more damage than the big guns of the fleet, currently EVE warfare is like Age of sail combat get with in range and blast the **** out of each other, granted sniping and the like puts some range to it but for the moment its whoever has the bigger gun wins, carriers are the odd man out and because their DPS is so weak they cant assume a heavy assault role and are relegated to minor support and guarding roles, this is completely different from the role that a modern carrier serves the only similarities is their weaknesses. currently the fleet is cohered around its purpose which is all fine and dandy when you know what the composition of the enemies fleet is, sheer versatility is what a carrier is supposed to bring to the battlefield carriers in eve are useless in this manner partly due to the drones and partly due to the way they are used |

Carriers typically get around 1000 dps (that of a well skilled gank BS), and are used for logistics (RR and moving). |

thats no where near the destructiveness of a dreadnought, which in fleet of WWII carrier based planes sunk both the Yamato And Musashi which had the biggest rifles ever put on a ship, in theory the carriers should be on par with or at least more effective at taking out large ships with their drones/fighters, logistics is exactly what a carrier didn't do they are logistic nightmares requiring aviation fuel, Munitions, supplies, and just about everything else all for the purpose of putting fighters off that deck, carriers in eve share very little in common with their RL counterparts
