Large projectiles are bad, but rockets are worse. Still, large projectile cause more problems than rockets.
So, I'd say it's a tie

Insane fiting requirements (compared to what's available on the ship) and not enough optimal range for arties, autocannons don't have enough tracking for half-decent to-hit chance if you even think about speed-tanking, and having to fight in falloff means the relatively low DPS is effectively even lower. And those are the BASIC problems of large projectiles.
Rockets... well... low raw DPS so it's of no use against larger craft, not enough explosion velocity to be feasable even against a frigate with afterburners, basically the worst frigate weapon you can think of (yes, even worse than small projectiles).

Large Autocannons: Don't have enough tracking.
Large Artillery: Not enough volley damage for such low RoF.
The autocannons I can live with mostly but I feel so let down by my 1400's and I'm sure my fleet-mates do too, they expect me to be able to do huge volley damage but it just doesn't happen. Poor tracking + poor RoF + high fitting costs + low ammo capacity SHOULD EQUAL really scary volley damage but as it is it just equals "Oh, did you fire at me?" (And I'm talking about 8x 1400 artillery cannons, on their own they are even more pathetic) |
