Ran afew of these in the corp.
Added rules were : No cloaks and a can was placed in the middle. At the start everyone orbits the can at 10km, spanks their MWD / AB once then the fight starts. No-one is allowed more than 40km away form the can or they get disqualified.
ECM allowed, had some funny fittings (A ECM Vexor actually finished 3rd i think it was) and if anyone was stupid enough to bring a blackbird, it would have insta popped.
Caracals didn't last very long, pretty much because everyone knew if they got out to range it was GG.
Thoraxs / Ruptures tend to win the tourneys.

As an aside - the less rules you have for this the better. The whole point of an exercise like this outside of the fun factor is to teach people how to think and improvise. If you make it something where people's hands are tied behind their back then they will learn less. Example - no ecm. That's lame. Let people bring blackbirds and get instapopped - they'll learn the value of subtlety. Similarly let people bring blaster boats to a ranged fight and learn that speed > DPS. Consider making it top damage instead of "most kills" as that will result in less kill ninja work. Its also good to make a pool of isk, like 5m isk to enter, split between 1st, 2nd & 3rd.

I'd bring a rupture probably. But thats because its my favourite cruiser. Your best bet is to stay away from everyone until the slow ass thoraxes and mallers have slugged it out. Then proceed to kill whats left.
Some people will always get primaried by several people out of coincidence or i.e. because people think they're stronger competitors. If you're one of them you're gonna die no matter what. Also people love to prime ceos. If you're ceo bring a bible and a stabber i tell you...

This is your best bet imo. Put all dps on missile boats first cuz they'll be the only problem you have if range is not an issue. Keep mwding away, you will have 100km range to bbq them one at a time. Just get them pesky caracals out of the way as fast as you can.
