Title says it all.
There are a bunch of cloaked recons/covops/haulers(yum) which warp thru camps then smack in local.
I wanna start blobbing gates with cans.
But everyone says it's an exploit. Is it just troll propaganda?
If it's not, I'd like to get input from an official (no, not you, carebear!). Or a link to a thread that clears this up (searched but couldn't find any).
Thank you. //yarr!

Yes and no.
Yes if you start putting cans/corpses/whatever at the warpin point to a bubble let's say. No, if you don't bother to pick up something that was left there.
Probably in the end it's down to the way it is interpreted by the individual GM. --- I smack just for myself.

I even petitioned to get this cleared up and the GM (after another GM moved my petition that was in the Exploit category that states you can ask if something is an Exploit to some random Gameplay category) gave me a generic "We review every case individually, so I can't give a conclusive answer" reply.
Just abuse it and tell them that they should be more specific about what is an exploit and what isn't if they want people to not use it.
(I would never do the whole 25+ cans on jumpins thing though, that is pretty cheap - but cans / wrecks / corpses to decloak Coverts at the edge of your bubble? Go for it, let CCP be more clear about things if they don't want us to use it) ___________________

There have been multiple rulings, but usually the verdict was against the cans. "Can Art" usually dies to the first annoyed person entering who bothers to write a petition and so on. Some people even petitioned single cans that were intended as "fireworks targets" at an RP event two years ago and got them removed almost immediately.

Edited by: Alex Vandal on 03/07/2009 11:26:56 So far i've never heard of anyone getting banned/warned because of such thing. Nor found any official forum post/rule/page/whatever saying it's forbidden. Nor seen CCP fix up the cloaks to counter this.
Just a bunch of trolls saying up loud omfg-im-pwned-its-illegal-will-petition-diaf-exploit.
It's a tricky thing. EULA says doing whatever to break game mechanics = YAYEXPLOITBAN. But this is a game mechanic. Cloaks are not and should not be perma. So?
LE: got your replies after typing this in - thanks guys. Again, I just wanna pop cloaky haulers, need an official position before petitions start pouring in. Will post link to thread in bio even.

We don't know if it is an exploit. So far it's just game mechanics. Nothing needs to be locked/nerfed/deleted. Please don't troll.

Comfirming he is!
And on topic, I wouldn't do it. It can be considered as creating lagg on purpose, on the other hand, placing a warp bubble on a gate to drag them off the gate and then placing a can in the middle of it to decloak everything is not considered an exploit.

It ranges from two extremes:
Spamming cans to deliberately cause lag is definitely an exploit. Leaving corpses or wrecks/cans of hostile ships that you pop around a gate definitely isn't an exploit.
Everything else - including spamming cans to hinder recloak - probably comes down to GM mood. Good luck!

Now, I have never experienced this on a gate, however, I have seen a POS setup with a couple (I think 5) likely warp in points were bubbled at 100, and there was a GSC there to decloak scouts. My understanding of it was, yea you can do it, but do it in moderation. ~ The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. |

Just exchanged messages inside a petition with a very kind CCP representative:
1) spamming a ton of cans around the gate is causing lag therefore it's an offence. 5th warning = ban. 2) it is not an exploit in the true sense of the word 3) placing a small number of cans or whatever (bodies, drones, ships, jetcans you name it) on bubbles, warp in vectors, to decloak people is OK and part of the game mechanic.
Now I can laugh harder at the hate mail I get for the bubble+can kills. Although I have to go back to brainstorming to find a way to decloak folks in lowsec, especially cloaky haulers who think they're uncatchable.
Anyway, fly safe guys!

Thankyou for attempting to clear this up, lack of any offial output on the issue of cans on bubbles would suggest that your reply from GM to be correct. So I will now link this thread to the occasional 2004 space troll that sits in system releasing hot air because he didn't cloack his recon/cov-ops/hauler before hitting bubble and was unable to recloack thanks to strategically placed debris.

Seems like you got a useful GM / CCP representative, mine was pretty useless.
Good to know though, always how I imagined it to be. ___________________

Yeah, although I will agree to that - most of the replies I get are ridiculous.

Don't use cans. Deploy T1 scout drones and abandon them. You get much better coverage, much more quickly with the same effort.
