Regarding Dust 514
Will I be able to use my pilot on eve , as a soldier in Dust 514? Any slight chance to release Dust on pc too?
Thanks for your attention. |

Agreeded, simply because i imagine that a high percentage of people to be playing Dust will be eve players and not just the randomn guy that likes fps's. So seeing as how eve is pc, it would only make sense to put Dust on the same platform.

To answer your first question, they mentioned that eve and dust will share the same namespace and your EVE Pilot can not be a DUST soldier at the same time. So you will have to roll a new char with a new name. |

Regarding the PC suggestion, hell you guys have already a partnership with Steam selling EVE. With Dust you could introduce much more new players to eve universe that don't enjoy the mmo model, but enjoy FPS though. Its a great idea around dust merging 2 games in one universe that affect each other, but you need to expand your product reach to make its impact worth the investment ,sweat and blood that you guys put in your work. |

You can't have both, console and PC FPS players on one server - even with autoaim, console players would get slaughtered as most of them don't use a mouse.
I don't remember which game,it was, but it was tested with some parallel xbox+PC title.
But probably there will be a PC version after it has failed on the PS3... morons are recruiting. You know who you are! |

Hi Takamori,
As was pointed out above with mention of shared namespace, you won't be using your EVE Online character in DUST 514. Capsuleers won't be able to leave their ships in EVE Online and start ventilating people on the surface of planets with assault rifles in DUST 514. In lore terms, an EVE capsuleer is distinct from a DUST merc.

No, it wouldn't, because mouse and keyboard will destroy gamepad users in the same setting.
So they would have to either require you to use a gamepad on your pc, which the vast majority of players would hate and refuse to do, or require the PS3 players to use a mouse and keyboard. Which the vast majority of players would hate and refuse to do.
Not going to happen in the foreseeable future. Deal with it. |

How cool would that be though? Board a dropship with whichever clone you have active, suit up, grab an assault rifle and descend to the surface of some warring planet.
BAM.
Now you're in the action. Take cover, shells are slamming the pavement and blasts are going off just meters away.

If Dust is the total success, I hope it is, it will attract FPS players who will make most people look like they are actually dead. I REALLY hope so, it has the background, the back story and the community that I hope will make some of the best FP||S players want to spend some time on it, because people will pay top dollar for them. If that happens OP, noone will care what your name is, not even you. |

My hopes would be for future installments. Although, I guess if you think about it, having a cross-game "shift" with a character from one game jumping directly into another, in real-time... that'd probably be an insane amount of work. I just keep thinking how cool my character would be in a suit of armor holding a giant face-hole-maker.

In DUST 514, those fps players will actually be rewarded for their skill. Not just the top of some killboard but sought after by EVE corporations/players to work for them.
EVE corporations will strive to build the best merc squads and take care of their DUST mercs or someone else will. I think that is one of the reasons that DUST 514 will be better than the run of the mill console fps.
Also, in DUST you actually outfit your vehicles like we outfit our ships (fitting window). You have to admit that is pretty neat. |

Said in jest I know, but I have said before that if a limited form of person to person combat is ever introduced to EVE it should be in the form of unarmed combat. It could be justified a number of ways in the lore, and have a distinctly different feel than DUST combat. To kill the enemy and break their toys!

Honest question: Are there even famous FPS players on consoles? I remember famous people from Doom, Quakeworld and QIII, like Thresh, Makaveli and Fatal1ty and I'm sure there are new ones on the PC, but as I lost interest playing FPS after QIII and got my PS3 way later, I don't have a clue how big FPS multiplayer is on consoles.
Having FPS 'pro-gamers' on consoles sounds a bit awkward due to autoaim and clumsy controls (povided they don't use mice). morons are recruiting. You know who you are! |

Due to the persistant single shard world and consequence driven nature of both EVE and DUST I think its a safe bet that there will be famous (or notorious) DUST players that will emerge, at least as far as the EVE universe is concerned. To kill the enemy and break their toys!

Hey
Im expecting stats on Dust players, previous victories or name in Quake III mean nothing. I want to see how effective people are with Dust weapons. I will probably try the weapons myself too. Quake is totally twitch, if im going to lay down a billion or whatever to a player to defend an installation, it depends on what Dust turns out to be.
Im not sure Dust will be totally twitch, like Quake, It may be more batlefield, this is the new dimension which Dust will add. The way CCP makes Dust weapons act is the basis for how successful this will be imho.
Im a carebear, I make enough money and it suits my lifestyle. I f i can engage fps players to defend a lower sec facility, i may consider taking a clone of myself into lowsec to profit from the on-ground situation. |

Oh, there are certainly FPS players out there who've made a name for themselves playing their games of choice on console, whether they're either talented players, pros, or someone who had an interesting idea for a series of videos.
(WoodysGamertag on YouTube is someone with one such idea, he's created a series that analyzes the gameplay of some really fantastic players.)
As to those videos - some of these guys started out capturing their gameplay footage and laying commentary tracks over them. That could be simple how-to's, discussion of tactics/strategy while watching the replay of a match.
This is more prevalent with the bigger titles (Halo, etc.), but for example with Call of Duty (MW2 and Black Ops), a good example is the channel from xJawz.
Beyond the people with mad skills that make videos, there are of course organized FPS tournaments (played on console) like Major League Gaming, and you'll see some names that are prominent on those circuits. Fame that goes beyond any given game community.
But as you said Ranger 1, DUST 514 is going to be part of the EVE setting and I have no doubt that players will become famous/notorious in New Eden- I'd expect names of some DUST players will become known in EVE as well as DUST 514. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you all will be able to accomplish in DUST. |

Will you guys be releasing any kind of demonstration videos showing what Dust 514 is all about? I'm sure you could attract a lot of interest from gamers who have no idea what the game is or what makes it stand out from other first-person shooters. Thanks for the info - I knew FPS were selling quite well on consoles, but thought most people played singleplayer due to their limited communication options and controller related issues.
Having watched 3 videos, I was surprised how well they did though - still not my cup of tea as my main gripe with Q3 was its slow pace compared to Quakeworld, and shooters only became slower and slower after that.
I must admit that I haven't tried playing online much on the PS3 and quit shooters altogether ten years ago, but even with a bluetooth keyboard and headset hooked up to it, I found multiplayer gaming (i.e. the communications part) really awkward to use - playing GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption with a corpmates whilst running mumble (and eve as a chat channel) was fun though.
Best of luck though.
@Wu: Guess we misunderstood each other - I thought you were talking about hiring their console counterparts - I don't think any of the players I mentioned (well - maybe John Wendel) still play competitively - and if they do, it's certainly not on consoles.
That just had me wonder if something like 'pro-gaming' exists in console shooters (I know it does to some extent for more classic console titles such as Fifa). morons are recruiting. You know who you are! |
