The old Ferox model never worked for me, as it was assymmetrical just for the sake of being assymmetrical. I like the new version much better.

Take a look at the Drake and the Rokh. They're what the Caldari can design and build when not tripping on mindflood. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

The Raven's wing never fully developed, the Scorpion just doesn't have one.
Speaking of never fully developed...the Osprey and Moa are aborted babies.
The Rokh fits the look of a deep space battleship crewed by thousands of people...wouldn't be surprised if our warships look like it if we ever survive to achieve that level of technology.
Caracal hull...too skinny to be a missile boat.
Drake = "Why don't more Caldari ships actually have visible missile ports like you see turrets?"
Merlin = looks like a fighter, something of Robotech or something. Cool ship.
Ferox hulls = I forgot which expansion but they used to be on the main screen, they're the reason I switched to Caldari (at, like, three weeks of gameplay) only to find that they have one engine that either dips or curves or just isn't on the other side. FAIL.
There are your cool ships. \o/
P.S. Minmatar = rust, chewing gum, duct tape, cardboard, and failed science projects....what you see is what you get.

While it may or may not have been a good idea, it is done and can't be undone (well can, but shouldn't considering time paradoxes and all).
do they all reform like voltron? If so who forms the head?

Sorry, had to fix this. =)
I swear some Mini ships look like they were snapped off the nearest hunk old starbase they found, bolted on engines and guns, and proceeded to drive it around the galaxy.

Caldari have the best looking ships ingame. Gallente - Looks like a piece of art a stoned hippie made out of clay and has feminine colors. Amarr - Odd shapes and pee-colored ships. Min - Space dumpsters with rust on them. Caldari - Nice straight lines and awsome steel color. Function before form always wins in my book and Caldari ships looks like they're built for a purpose, not just a form of fashion. (I don't own an GMC 2500 because of the looks). Of course their is no "right" answer to this thread but believe me, I'm right on this one.

I loved my Osprey and Blackbird back in the day, but I have to admit that they along with the Moa are the most "aesthetically challenged" ships in the game. The Rokh and Drake are pure smexy, though.
The Scorp and Raven are purpose-built machines that don't give a flip about style. That makes them hot in and of themselves. |

The Merlin and Hookbill look like the Wraith from StarCraft.
Oddly enough the description for the Caldari Navy Hookbill is calling it an "Ugly Duckling" of the caldari ships. ________________________________________________

Are you a noob? no offence, i'm just asking if you are new, becouse when you are noob you are like this:
caldari ships: meh wtf?! wtf is this?! wtf is that?! gallente ships: awsome!! man these are spaceships!! minmatar ships: what a crap is this looool amarr ships: uhh shiny
but when you grow up:
caldari ships: aahh i love this hard cold metal, awsome gallente ships: lol these things are not ships, these are toys minmatar ships: badass amarr ships: damn, why didn't i train for amarr
Seriously, caldari got a lot of extremely cool looking ships, some of the best tbh (as already mentioned, capital ships are simply amazing, but not the only ones).

I think people fly Caldari because they are significantly better than gallente in almost every way.
And for the record, imo, Caldari ships look the best by far, in almost every ship type. Ships are very blocky, very human. The Rokh is exactly what I imagine the first "combat" space ship it look like.

Count me in as a die-hard Nighthawk fan. But in general I'm not a fan of the Caldari design ethic. Like the Osprey. Or the Moa. What exactly were they thinking? Even the Drake is a little underwhelming....
This all fits a pattern though. Tier 1 BCs -- and thus Command Ships -- as a rule look awesome. It's a shame they're so useless.

My opinion (in alphabetical order)
Amarr: This is what 'high class' spacecraft should look like. Gold plated, symmetrical, modeled after birds of prey in an abstract sense. Clean lines. (Note: symmetry isn't just for looks, asymmetrical ships would try to rip themselves apart under straight-line acceleration so would require extra needless energy for structural fields, extra computation to compensate for off-center thrust vectors, etc. Amarr ships have none of that nonsense). Only Amarr ship I've had experience with that seems out of place is the Maller which for some reason seem like it's the ugly child of the group.
Caldari: Nice and industrial, mainly utilitarian. The only ship I really like is the Rokh, and perhaps the Caldari Shuttle. The rest suffer from severe symmetry and 'let's just hack it together' look. I think Caldari ships look more hacked together than Minmatar personally. Some personal favorites: Badger AKA muffer, Charon AKA Axe (complete with a handle!), Drake AKA Shinguard.
Gallente: Most inconsistent of the bunch in my opinion. Some very nice designs (more like the Myrmidon and Megathron please), but some that look overly organic without the symmetry that really comes with organic shapes (except the Domi, which is symmetrical, but is an amorphous blob); I haven't flown a Brutix (shame on me) but I think it is also organic and symmetrical). The Gallente frigates look like drops of metal dropped randomly and left to congeal. I don't understand them. The Thorax is nice, except for the odd asymmetry.
Minmatar: These look more like what actual spacecraft will probably be: only enough structure to do the job, not any more. No fancy plating, nothing for pure looks, just pure function. For the most part they have a nice symmetry to them, though some seem to have some odd bits (I'm not that familiar with Minmatar ships so I can't say much more than that).
All in all I think the ships do a good job of maintaining the appropriate styles - you never see a Caldari ship and mistake it for an Amarr. Minmatar have an unmistakable characteristic. If you can't classify it, it's probably Gallente as the Gallente designers don't seem to all be on the same page.
So while I have preferences, I think all the ships have their own good qualities, and their own quirks.

i agree with the rock part, the drake is to thin looks likes it can be snapped in half with little effort.
also i have to say that all the caldari ships look good they are just differant (Except the bantam, that little creature needs to crawl back into its hole and think about what it dresses in next time)
all the A symmetrical ships i think have a weird effect where they always seem new no matter how many times to look at them, where ships that are symmetrical like the Ferox get old after a while
