Edited by: Kadesh Priestess on 06/07/2009 06:02:35 I was getting crashes a week ago when 1.1.25 wasn't released, and started tracking down its source immediately. Currently commit which caused this regression lies somewhere between:
bad: 675e6e93b1d2b4555d05e311764510abf763d21d (appwiz: A nicer icon for appwiz.) good: e1f0a0db1fb4c98eac66c626791e0058d012182b (configure: Add a wrapper macro for .cfi pseudo-ops in assembly code.)
Not sure which module causes it. I don't have too much time (each check takes at least 3-4 hours of gameplay) so probably somebody may wish to help us with finding problematic commit :P
I've tried to find why eve crashes, made couple of logserver logs but they don't have anything similar when looking at their last lines...

I've had one instance, yesterday, where the client just vanished. I'm still using Wine version 1.1.22
EDIT: I was selecting something while coming out of warp at a gate. I may have called for info on item or pilot

For some time I used a patched 1.1.16 (path was for the models don't show bug affecting NVidia 6nnn and 7nnn cards).
A few days ago I ugraded to wine 1.1.25 and was happy about the graphic patch being included and also that EVE Patching works again (without manual download).
But yes - now I also get those crashes. Either after a few minutes - or yesterday repeatable when I opened a POS Ship Maintenance hangar. Flying around a bit - (to POS in WH space) - warp to POS - open hangar: Crash. Log back in - open hangar: Crash.
Sigh. Too bad classic mode is gone - that worked almost perfectly for years. Now my graphics card gets cooked and there's always some major bug.

I had to go back to WINE 1.1.24 because with 1.1.25 the client would crash when I jumped to another system while I was in fleet.

My guess is the problems being experienced may be related to one of two bugs reported on Wine's bugzilla.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19217 http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19219
I'm currently working on regression testing 19217. I don't know what's going on with 19219. Proud Wine User Linux Registered User #64723 |

Still no solution. To find it - tracking down commit which led to regression is the easiest way to go, from my perspective.

Finally, i found it.
818223e75e3dd6582dcf37ca760eeaffe3f19548 (d3dx9: Add a stub for D3DXLoadSurfaceFromFileInMemory.)
It modifies d3dx9_36 dll which is iirc used by eve. Tomorrow i'll conduct some additional testing to ensure that exactly this commit leads to eve crashes and report it to winehq.

Well, it seems that I'm wrong - game crashed once one commit before. So, regression was introduced earlier... will continue investigation, but tomorrow.

I hit this too. I'm gonna go back to 1.1.23 and see how it fairs.

Kadesh,
Out of curiosity, does your terminal output match the output docs attached to either of the bugs reports I mentioned above?

I didn't see these glitches - probably because eve crashes when i'm alt-tabbed out :P
Can't remember if terminal output is the same (most probably i had different numbers), will check this evening...

Edited by: Xeiyu Crimson on 08/07/2009 23:07:34 Try setting the Depth/Stencil format in the eve-online options to 24-bit only then restart the client and see if the crashing goes away. You might have to click on advanced settings to see it.
EDIT: Nevermind just crashed, but I seemed to be able to play longer.

Edited by: Merende Macaco on 09/07/2009 15:57:44 I seem to be getting a lot of these, followed by a crash which varies in severity.:

I'm getting both errors from 2 previous posts from time to time, none of them occurred on .24.

This went from being an every 4 hour issue to being an every 5 minute issue last night, and I don't understand why it would be so much more frequent all of a sudden. I'm not that advanced of a Linux user. I downgraded wine one step and it's been running all day with just the usual occasional connectivity drops, which I believe are caused by my crappy ISP. Hopefully the next version of wine will clear this up.

Think I might of found it
476324e8ba441a4f364787c7a8b0037f1687dca5 ntdll: Compute the free lists address at run-time instead of playing with alignment and padding
I'm gonna reset to the latest git with the patch reverted to see if it works.

The first bad commit is this one 09712593c8496be5e952b7316099f9eed5043203 ntdll: Release some address space after the process initialization is done.
In order to revert the patch and compile the latest git, commit 1ac7576d477a6f22fa6d5758db6d8344d4bad1a9 ntdll: Disable releasing the address space on Mac OS since dyld doesn't support this. has to be reverted first.
According to my data, eve crashed couple of times with wine prior to that commit (395e41103e9d9cb996e3567aedbb261ef380bb75 (browseui: Add a stub for DllInstall.)). Are you completely sure that precisely this one caused regression?

I can confirm the same is happening to me on 2 different machines both with nvidia 9800gt. And it wasn't happening a couple of versions before... Will downgrade to .24 or .23 to test.

Yeah, I found another bug report that lord of the rings mmorpg also crashes due to that patch. When I reverted it I was able to play eve-online until I closed it.
