I started playing several days back and I found that mining seemed best for paying for my newbie skills and ship outfitting costs. Two nights in a row I was able to make a good deal of money. However the last two days of game play I have discovered that the asteriod belts in my current and neighboring newbie star systems have been completely stripped mined.
As I understand it, asteriod belts re-pop on a server reset that happens in the morning my time. By the time I log in after work people with high level mining skills have come in and mined everything good. This is total BS. Basically players in time zones east of me will get the best dibs on everything 5 days a week (at least I can compete Sat and Sun).
Its hard to imagine a game that is designed such that some time zones are much better to play in then others. It would have been simple to have e.g. an hourly spawn rate of some sort but this is one day spawn is absurd. It really took all the fun out of the game for me :(

best advice i can think of is to move system. its unlikly that a group will go thru and strip several systems. you will probably find if you move one or 2 jumps away from the highways systems, you will find some normal belts -------------------------------------------

Yes, move away to a different system, perhaps of slightly lower security status too. Some of the systems are close to the newbie starting areas, and in any MMO game, the newbie grounds are way overcrowded and overworked. There should be 0.9 systems that are far from the newbie grounds you started in, but if you can't find any, you can still mine in 0.8 provided you install a shield booster and/or stop mining to kill the NPC's that appear now and then.

Morning around 8am is (was? not sure anymore since I'm at work by then) the time for me when EVE went down for a reset. Sounds like we may be in simmiliar time zones.
If you'd like some help with mining, look me up sometime.

Probably a mojor building company needed a lot of low grade minerals. As far as I know that happens not very often, but if it continues I d suggest that you take a look at the map for systems near you. To be honest I operate most of the time in a 0.9 (usual population 20-50 players)with occasional 0.5 for mining and have only experienced strip mining once since the release of EVE. So it s all a matter of location.
To answer your question: respawn is never the full maximum size of asteroids. In systems that are unmined without stations I ve seen asteroid walls. I dont know what you call good but atm every mineral sells very well or in your case it s probably better to sell raw ores.

I agree that strip mining of newbie systems is total BS, and that it happens too often. Unfortunately, there is little the GMs or devs can do about it.
Come on, strip miners. It only takes one frigate to defend your mining operation against anything you'll run into in a 0.5 belt. Leave the 0.9+ systems for the newbies. Get some Omber or Kernite and triple your profits!

Hate to burst your bubble, but scor is the best empire ore out ther right now. Unless prices have chnaged drasically in the last few days then scor is the most valuable empire ore bar none. If memory serves, Jaspet is next on the list. Kernite is definatly way down on the list as is omber, though omber is worht more because mex is so under-valued.

I had no problem mining in my 1.0 system for weeks and then all of a sudden several groups moved in and began strip mining like crazy. What made me even more angry was that they were usually well armed and could no doubt move in on lower security regions without blinking. That's pretty lame, IMO.
I ended up moving away to another solar system and so far I haven't run into the problem.

I look at mining as a neccesary evil.Ive been playing about 2 weeks now (this is my 3rd stint playing eve) and have done mining twice.I only did it when i was low on isk. I do a lot of missions for lvl 1 agents.I only do missions for lvl 1 agents with 0 quality or better. It may take me longer to acquire wealth but it does allow me NOT to mine anything. Preparing for war brings peace. |

This problem will only get solved when the 'highway' between regions is put through low security space. While it remains in 0.9-1.0 systems, people will always want to build close to it and therefore will always want to mine close to it. The answer for you, is to learn the functions of the map. It will show you where the high security systems are, and where there are a lot of players. You should find it fairly easy to find those systems that aren't frequented by the masses. i didnt think the roids did a full respawn each day, but come back gradualy over time. but ya like people said, get the heck out of the noob areas asap, due to resource supply and demmand issues as well as increased lag etc...
if your looking for someone to assist in your mining ops during east coast na ops timezone then give me a shout i'll be more than glad to assist you. -

Well as several people had suggested I ended up moving to another area. I was at my new area for a total of three days before logging in and finding yet another 1.0 zone strip mined. At this point I have my main ship, shuttle, and freighter all in the same spot. Of course I could always go find yet another system, move my ships, start mining again...
I'm on a 14 day trial and on day 9 I was leaning towards buying the game. Now its day 10 and luckily I was reminded again how the spawn system is borked in this game. Some parts of the game system are pretty cool and heck I even enjoyed mining. But having to run around every few days to find a place to mine isn't fun IMO. Hopefully in the future they will fix the game but at this point its irritated me enough that its just not worth playing.

well, the megacorps mine in 1.0 and 0.9 systems coz of 2 main reasons i have found... 1. they usually have factory slot's in or around that area and want huge ammounts of low end minerals to build fleets of crusiers and Battleships, this is usually just after a major PvP campaine has been going on and everyone want's to recoup there lose ship's before the next one. 2. it's a good place to recuit new players and they can help in the stripmining too, also 0.9 and 1.0 systems have no rat's in them, which means 100% of the ship's have 100% highslot's with miner2's on, so no need for weapons, also people who use harvy's(best mining drones) don;t wanna let them loose when they could get killed by rats(npc's) as they cost about 2 mill per.
these people that stripmine in 1.0 and 0.9 systems in or next too newbie areas are usually idiot carebears who don;'t want to rise anything, personally, i think belt's in 1.0 systems should be spread out over like 200km's, with little pockets of riods, this would make it unprofitable to stripmine as there would be too much effort in going for pocket to pocket, but the newbie miners would like it! what's everyone thing??
