I fly Minmatar and use the cannons, carbines, etc. and I'm thinking of cross training another weapons system to supplement what I have. I just want to get others thoughts on which weapon system they think would go better with a Minmatar weapons system.

Look at the ships you fly, Most Minmatar ships give a bonus to your Projectile Weapon systems. You can of course put Hybrid or even LAZORZ on your Rifter, but they would not get the bonuses that your projectile guns get.
Fit towards the bonuses of teh ship to get the best results.

As minnie you have to train more skills than any other race as it is, if you must train another wep system... it should be missiles. Many minnie ships use them too.
really tho.... when you are getting X% projectile dmg or rate of fire per level on most minnie ships, why would you wann put lasers on it ?
The only time I think it's reasonable to put non racial guns on a ship is when the ship has no weapons bonus and there would actually be some benefit to it, and to be honest, you are more likely to end up sticking projectiles on a myrmidon or prohecy than you are lasers on a minnie ship because projectiles don't use cap and you can take advantage of that on those ships. well mannered a**h***

Ya know...I was going to give you **** for using the phrase "Dual Wielding", but if you look at it from another games' perspective, you're right.

Definitely missiles. Pretty much all the races have two main weapons, minmatar favor projectiles and missiles so you will want to train both of those up. And yeah, the "dual wielding" threw me, thought you meant something like flying two ships at once before I read your actual post. -----------------------------------------------------

Depends what you're doing. You might want to ignore launchers and fit utility things in your non-turret slots, like neuts/vampires or tractor beams. But if you really want to use another weapon, launchers are definitely the way to go; your turret slots work best with projectiles, and your capacitor isn't designed to support the other turret weapons in numbers large enough to make a difference.
Minmatar: it's all about the "Boom boom boom" or the "ratatatat".

Minmatar: Projectiles/Missiles Caldari: Missiles/Hybrids Gallente: Hybrids/Drones Amarr: Lasers/...
True, some Amarr ships have bonuses for missiles or rockets, but not exactly effective. Even then, a fair amount of Amarr ships are better off NOT using lasers.
But yes, to the OP, missiles will be what you want to be looking at.

Kinky.
Try the Typhoon. It triple-wields Projectiles, Missiles, and Drones. Same with the Huginn on a cruiser scale. -- The Theorem Theorem: If If, Then Then --

thing about artys is you have no middle ground, you're either right up in their face doing piddly damage, but doing so much of it it actually counts for something.
Or miles away doing epic alpha but piddly dot.
i guess you could say you can fight in your falloff with the autocannons, but in frigates and such it basicly means you're right at the edge of your falloff, or in web/scram range. ------

======================== That's why I wanted to have different weapons. My main 250mm with skill upgrades have a decent range. Up close they suck...and the lower level gatling and carbines aren't strong enough. So I want something that will either be more powerful up close (like Amarr weapons) or move to distance like Gallente weapons.

Yes, but it'd be better to dual wield Scimitar and Rapier, because the Rapier is considered light for the purposes of dual wielding, therefore less attack penalty. Also it can cloak :)ote]

So pick a range, get to it and stay there. You're still in Frigate-class ships, so you should have the speed to dictate the range to anything bigger, and if you can't, you're hosed anyway since the ship with the power to dictate the range will have all their guns hitting you at their best performance, and you'll be out of best range bracket with some or all of your guns at all times.
The only excuse for split-range fittings is when you haven't got the fitting skills to completely fill your high slots with the long ranged guns. Even then, though you'd almost certainly be better going for one bracket or the other.
There is no "all-purpose" turret weapon. Missiles are probably closest to "any-range", but part of the game is making your strategic choices in fitting and then applying the tactics that will make that strategy work.
