I have an idea of where you can paint your ships in EVE and let other people view them when your undocked from a station. What you could do is go into a station with a paintshop service and paint your ship for X amount of isk (fairly small amount like 4000 isk for painting a drake blaring green on every bit of showing metal).
Basic controls like right click to move your camera around and left click to paint your ship and a window to choose colors and the size of your brush. Although you can only chose from a small pallet of pre-set colors to minimize lag. Also your can save paint jobs for your ships so your don't spend hours and hours painting and re-painting your ships that might have gotten blown up and you just replaced it.
Another interesting idea is putting your corp insignia on your ship. Same thing with the painting but you drag the insignia where ever you want and put in on your ship and you can choose the size of your insignia and which way it goes onto your ship via a window with controls for it.
Interesting idea to me let me know what you think.
Well i think they are good ideas and i want to see who else thinks the same. |

Edited by: Jint Hikaru on 07/07/2009 08:18:05 BAD IDEA...!!!
Why do people post ideas without thinking about them?
Do you really want to see hot pink ships flying around, or ships with badly drawn flames up the sides.... how about ones with male genitals or breasts painted on them.
What about when someone paints "Piopop licks goats, we have proof" along the side of their freighter and flys around you system????
Seriously, the guys at EVE have used an insane amount of talent and hard work to get the ships looking as great as they do. We dont need some idiots using microsoft paint to 'Pimp their Rides'. ------------------------ Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager "I've got a couple of Strippers on my ship... and they just love to dance!" ------------------------ |

An easy way to make the ships your "own" is to force a fixed name for the ship. So when selling a ship, the name stay fixed and unchangeable.

I dont think people should be able to make their own skins, but I think it would be great if ccp offered a canned selection of skins, or the ability to add a few decals or something. I'm thinking mechwarriorish, where you could pick cyanide, black and white, rally checkered, or panzer camo...doesn't that fit the capsuleer mercenary mindset? To me it fits perfectly, I imagine, say..Noir. merc company with a uniform paint job and a corp insignia on the side flying into combat...

If you like this general idea, why not support the CSM proposal I'm currently pushing over in The Assembly?

I seem to notice you dropping in on threads mentioning this idea always with similar visions of genitals and breasts on ships. Is there something you'd be prepared to admit to in a more private setting? It is really unhealthy how you focus on these things.
Some people would do that and I certainly agree that it would be childish and crass. Some capsuleers are still in that phase in life. What's it to you? Is EVE not the place to express yourself whichever way you want to?
A ship fitted with a coat of arms of such low quality would invite ridicule and contempt [and those have their own, invisible price]. This kind of painting would be found, the bell curve predicts it. But it would be exceedingly rare. Most people don't want to make themselves look -that- ridiculous. Most people would try to make something that reflects their ambition and aspirations. I'm putting ISK on the line in betting that most people would -not- want to paint their ships in ridiculous coats of arms.
Of course, CCP would be the judge of this: as with the corporate logo, they decide the permutations and how it could look. I very much doubt they would go for the offensive [although some people take offense at anything that not fits their narrow view of the world].
This could be done, it could be done easily and it could be done right.
I would like to be able to paint my ships. I would also like to be able to see the name of my ship on its flank.
In a game where the capsuleer is among the ruling elite of the universe, the idea that they could not paint their ship as they saw fit is beyond ridiculous.
But I certainly want to cater to your tastes as well. How about a low-res 16-color interface? Your ship is a colored square [size and color determined by type of ship]. No more lag and no chance of being offended by any painting that would harm your fragile sensitivies.

Is it me or do people think that posting the same idea 6 million times actually makes it more popular to CCP?
My 2 cents: No to painting ships. Don't like the idea of flourescent pink with flowers painted ravens flying around.

Its just not something I want to see in game. The point of EVE in immersion, we want to feel like we are flying spaceships etc. How quickly would that immersion drop once people are able to paint what they want on their ship.
Ok, I mention genetalia, that is an extream view. You say that not many people would do that. Well add it up with the number of people who would spay 'Noob Killr' or 'MyCorp iz 1337' etc up the sides of their ships, or use the most gareish brightest colours or paint flowers or swastickers.
I used to play EQ for many years. That ame suffered from all the chars of the same sex/race looking similar. SOE added a paint your armor ability and it became the standard paintjob for Warriors (who needed to be seen as they were main tank on a raid) to have a Hot Pink and Tixic Lime Green alternating on each armor piece.
Just seeing those chars running around was completly stupid. This will happen if free access is given to customizable paint jobs.
Plus someone at CCP is going to have to moderate every single ship.
I am sorry if I seem to appear in threads like this and be negative, but I have seen it happen in EQ and dont want it to happen in EVE.
Note: please excuse any typos, the forums wont let me see what I am typing. ------------------------ Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager "I've got a couple of Strippers on my ship... and they just love to dance!" ------------------------ |

I do however think that a subtle corp logo would work very well. And from what I hear, that might be getting implemented.
Might bring a few people out of the safety of the noob corps. ------------------------ Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager "I've got a couple of Strippers on my ship... and they just love to dance!" ------------------------ |

How about making it a realy extensive feature, like a mini Paint for ships, but make it client side only, meaning only you can see your painted ship. And then you can take screenies and share it with ur freinds

ccp could pre-establish some details that can actually be changed like for example a littlo spot besides the ****pit for the corp insignia, or some pieces of the ship like a prestablish set of line in the ship just look at the golem the raven and the state issue raven they got orange white and yellow details and of course you can only choose from a good palette of colors that does not include pink or things like that but like yellow and orange maybe black for caldari and such

I'd settle for being to color/paint my own ship, even if its just client side. If you think about it its the same reason CCP is doing walk in station : Increased avatar customisation leads to a bigger identification with the avatar, that usually leads to increased player retention time.
More paying customers = more devs to work on EVE for us.
So no to custumisation = no to more devs giving us more toys.

When i was thinking of this i wasnt thinking about putting lame flames on the side or putting male private on you ship. i was thinking along the lines of just coloring your ship a color that might suit what you like.
For example i like orange but i like the look of caldari who's colors are grey and blue so i would like to make the lights on my drake orange with a bit of darker grey on there i think it would make my ship look better at least.
A horrible example is putting balls on my ship and make it it look like a shaft.
What i would do is maybe choose a certain part of your ship and color that part only one color and change the lights if you want to.
Also on another note i know people put tons of hard work into making the ships skins and i'm not saying they are bad in fact they are the best ships i've seen in my time of playing MMO's. All im saying is that i just dont like some ships yet i like how others look and they may be another faction so i cant drive them.
Maybe making it client side would make people not draw gentails on their ships because they don't want to see that every time they fly their pvp ship.
The insignias on the other hand those i would like to see on ships because the you could tell if someone is a part of a pvp corp in high sec who loves to flip your cans just for the laughs.
Anyways to wrap it up i thought they were good ideas but apparently not the painting one. so dismiss that from the oP please. |

Originally by: Nikolai Bellic besides the ****pit for the corp insignia,
Hurray for freedom of speech. I was in Chicago one time and I visited the Han**** building to **** a snook at my buddies over at the Sears tower. I couldn't see them so I went to the bar for a ****tail and there was a crazy guy there who held a ****ed .45, which seemed a little out of place. I didn't care for his ****amamy story about the ****sure boyfriend of his daughter going off half-****ed. Since I wasn't going to have a drink in peace, I might as well have something to eat and I decided to order myself a plate of ****les, because the restaurant has a stellar reputation for them. As I was waiting for my food I watched the huge flatscreen on the wall that showed "Never mind the Buzz****s", which I had never expected to see in a place like Chicago. Then something dawned on me and I took my **** out of my bag. This startled people in the restaurant because for many it was the first time they saw an actual chicken and a live one too.

This again? I was said a long time ago that CCP would consider alliance logos on ships. No paintjobs or corporate logos but that was years ago. Soon...
