My enire eve life I've been doing gallente missions. My caldari standing is -4.59 and I've heard mention that if that gets to -5 I'll actually get shot at by the caldari gate npcs and such.
Is that right? I thought it was only sec rating that'd get me popped.
Either way, I need a way of fixing this, I've got some social skills that have helpped a bit but in the same breath I can't accept missions yet.
suggestions on a postcard please |

You can still do missions you just need to avoid those where you shoot at Caldari. |

You might have more luck running missions for Amarr, at least in my case (as I've been running for Caldari) my Gallente/Minmatar standings are bad (Gallente at -7 or so, Minmatar -2 w/o social skills). Might be similar in your case, perhaps you can build up your Caldari standings by running missions for Amarr.
An other option might be to ask someone to run missions for you and have you in his group, as far as I know the standing gain can be shared, but I have to admit I'm not 100% sure about that. |

That'll share corp standing gains, but faction standing gains (which come via storyline missions only) aren't shared with gang-mates.

if you have the diplomacy skill at level 5 it makes a massive difference.
Without looking im not sure but i think its almost to the point that it doesnt matter if your standing gets to -10 (without skills) its improved so much that its just under -5??
someone nearer a machine with the client installed will have to confirm.

Amarr storyline missions will fix Caldari standing. If you cant run missions for Amarr try the Ammatar. Its well worth the effort to grind to L4 with an other faction if only for a change of scenery.
And if you want to fix the -4.59 its gonna take a while.
btw you need more than -2 to be able to get L1s from agents of a faction

Basically as you can never get -10 (as its always a % increase towards -10), you can never get -5 flat with the skill at Level 5, as it gives +5 when you are on -10 ;) _________________ - Rivqua - --- R.E.P.O. --- |

Edited by: Contralto on 07/07/2009 20:25:40 With Diplomacy V you will pass -5.0 modified when your base standing passes -8.6
Based on my own Serpentis standings, which are an indicated -10 I get -6.0 with Dip V, True standing -9.999555 modified to -5.999644

You don't need to worry. Train Diplomacy to 1 and you'll be fine as long as you don't shoot at any more Caldari ships.
It's true that increases to Gallente faction standings will lower your Caldari standings, but there is a floor. And that floor is -5.0.
Check out these tables.
The top table shows the floors and ceilings. The bottom table shows the relative rate times ten.
This should also explain why your Sisters of EVE standings actually go up faster than your Gallente. Notice the 13.3333 in that bottom table. That means a 1% increase to Gallente gives a 1.33333% increase to SoE. Up to the ceiling of 8.0 which is listed in the top table.
Hope this helps.

Wrong. Min faction standing you can have and still get above -5 with Diplomacy V is -8.75. With standing -10 and Diplomacy V you would get to -6 effectively.
Effective standing formula:
Effective Standing = Actual Standing + [(10 - Actual Standing) * 0.04 * Level of Connections or Criminal Connections or Diplomacy]
