Hi
I encountered an annoying problem with the (sisi) installer today. At first I tried the regular way, having the downloader get the install files and install them. My C: drive only has less then 1GB available and unfortunately the downloader insisted on downloading it to C: so it obviously failed.
Then I downloaded the file manually and of course saved it to another drive. But unfortunately it couldn't install anyways because it insisted in extracting the temporary files to C: which obviously failed again.
I didn't test it, but I suspect the same to happen with the TQ installer.
Is there a way for me to tell the installer to extract its temporary files to another place? I see there's a pull down option, but it's not interactive. Maybe there's a command line parameter to get the job done right?

I do not believe there is a way to determine where to unpack the files to a specified drive. but i believe the bigger question is why do you have less than 10% of the drive empty.
you should really free up some space or get an external backu drive and store your Music/Vidoes/documents there. Or get a second internal drive and install your games on that drive and keep your primary drive as empty as possible.

You see, my C: drive is supposed to be where the operating system is located. I don't store or install anything else to this drive, ever. That is why I allocated limited disk space to it. I was wrong btw, it has close to 2GB unused, but that's still way less then what I'd need to run the installer. And also, 2GB (as well as 1GB) is not 10% in my case. ;)

For a partition or seperate OS drive i would suggest having either 15GB or 50% (whichever is bigger) of the drive/partition free to allow the system to do full fragment movements in one go without the need for dropping stuff around.

I'm having the same exact problem trying to install the regular TQ client on a secondary machine. CCP seems to assume that everyone has 2.2 GB free (or whatever, 1.3 GB isn't enough) on their C: drive, either for the download installer (even if you select another drive to download to), or to unpack the files from the offline installation (which I downloaded on my main machine and copied over).
My C: drive is limited in size for the same reason as the OP, a 10 GB partition for the OS, and ther rest of the drive was allocated as storage for TV recording.

As said you should ensure that it is at least 15GB free to allow the system to move full fragmented systems around without the need to move thngs twice. Minimizing the OS partition to what you can get it close to is not recommended.

Lork plz, that's not a solution for our problem. It would be easier to install it to another computer and copy it over. Therefor I'm not gonna reinstall Windows and every single software I have installed because of this.
Only problem with that is I don't have another machine available here, so I was asking for advice how to tell the installer to do it properly.

Since it needs to be extracted to your temporary folder for installation i belive there is no way to allow it to extract to a differnet directory. Considering that your User area i belive can ONLY be on the same drive the OS is installed on.
Also consider that many programs also extract to the temp folders and your browser will store many of its downloaded info and downloaded items before transferring to the directory its being stored to in the end. This will mean that you can't download more than 1GB before it crashes.
The only solution is to do a repartition. You will run into a problem with another program.

Telling people to repartition their drive just to install a single program (which shouldn't have this artificial limitation anyway) is not a solution.
The machine I am installing on is not a primary use one anyway. I don't browse the web on it, save for downloading drivers, and it's only other purpose aside from trying to run a light duty Eve client is for recording TV, which is why it's partitioned the way it is. Other than the bare OS, there was no need to install any other programs.
Anyway, I filed a bug report for this, and they replied that they would look into adding a way to specify an alternate temporary directory.
I managed to work around the problem by just copying the install folder from my primary machine over the network.

what you can do is move the temp folders
control panel | system | advanced
environment variables
change the temp and tmp [in both sections] to d:\temp [or wherever you have space]
disable the paging file on drive C and put it on D
delete the temp folders that exist on c:
reboot
defrag c:
that will help
edit...
also if you have it installed on another machine then just copy the eve folder

In the meantime I managed to solve it in another way. I had the TQ client installed already. Someone linked me a patch that could update TQ to Sisi, so I just copied the TQ directory and applied said patch to the copied folder.
Rattus' advice looks like it would have worked too. So thanks for that anyways. ;)
Hope they fix that for future installers though. Good idea about the bug-petition Ruziel. It's really not very difficult for CCP to implement this feature into the installer. They just have to remember it.

Use a software named 7-Zip and extract from the eve client file to your prefered location. 2 files will be extracted, you jut run the exe file, don't bother extracting the rar file.
