Well, since we've decided to have an intelligent debate on the subject:
What I do is wrong. There, I accept that fact. However, I argue that I am no less than what jet can miners deserve for their greed. I hesitate to use the word exploit but really, jet can mining is exactly that, It's just that it's become a universally accepted exploit.
Ore thieves are the balance to this. The risk the jet can miners take is losing their ore to a thief. What annoys me is that the jet can 'exploiters' think of themselves as so much more righteous then the ore thief 'exploiters'.
We both get what we deserve for our chosen 'exploits'. The miners get some ore and lose some ore. I get some ore but make a very poor living, am universally hated, can't go into 0.4 and below and occasionally get podded by a suicide pilot.
We are really no better than each other.......

I agree with Tenaj. I think ore-thieves are the perfect balance to jetcan mining. They provide the risk... the excitement factor. How do you feel when your can is up 50k ore and an indy ship glides in? Doesn't your heart race? Mine does(although I rarely jetcan mine anymore). It's always a risk. I do not steal ore because it's not in my 'character'. My character is not a thief. Some characters are. Probably these people wouldnt still a dime in real life. Once again, just my two-cents...

There are characters in this game who steal because they can. One example is a little **** called woosa who is an ore theif and also has alts (with very similar names) who just pick on one corp and one solar system which effects the whole area since people stop mining there since they arnt here for the grief
With regards to jet cans, one must also remember that is it not just battleships which use jet cans. Noobs and every other players use them. I hardly see how a probe for example is going to strip a belt with or with or without a jet can. As a miner i think the most boring thing about mining is the constant swapping ship to haul etc. i even make deals with some people that if they haul for me i give them 30% of what i mine. |

Lol, I'm not an alt Madgaz. I do have an alt, but this is my main. I've been around a long time now and I'm not going anywhere. I don't think that contraband flagging will affect ore thieves but if it does I'll adapt.
Incidentally, I think if they make flagging apply to ore thieves it'll make secure cans obsolete overnight and give the green light to 1.0 and 0.9 getting stripped bare, which, in keeping with the original topic of this thread, won't be any good for the Newbs.

Lol, I'm not an alt Madgaz. I do have an alt, but this is my main. I've been around a long time now and I'm not going anywhere. I don't think that contraband flagging will affect ore thieves but if it does I'll adapt.

One observation Tenaj,
just as jetcan mining was not an intended feature, neither was the ability of thiefs and scammers to be able to hide in NPC corporations.

I agree completely Riddari. Like I said, the thieves and the jet can miners are little better than each other when it comes to manipulating the game mechanics to suit their own ends. We deserve each other.....

Ok, if Shiva makes removing from jetcan's a criminal offence, hopefully they will also reduce the can size to 3000m3 making the giant secure cans more usefull. I am not aware of anything that a NPC rat drops that would total to 3000m3
So if CCP is going to take the bat to one side of the fence, hop over and smack the other to keep the balance.

Ok, read the comment on Eve Online support on the ore theft subject. My comment about no NPC drop bigger than 3000m3 is out the window as I forgot about PC ships exploding and needing to have some of those items and cargobay in the box...and an iteron 5 all tricked out would be up to max jetcan size....
So only answers could be:
1) jet cans only have a capacity of 3000m3 while ship remnant cans would have whatever the max cargobay on that class of ship would be and change. Different remnant cans would be Micro (shuttle), Small (frigate, black ops, assalt frig etc), Medium (cruiser), Large (battleship), Huge (industrial). CCP could assign the sizes depending on how much cargo a ship of those classes could possibly hold considering best case. This way, if someone wants a 28k mining can, they gotta go and blow up a iteron 5 to create it.
2) make any jetcan or ship remnant can be the exact size of the item(s) being moved to space.
Personally I think option 1 would get done before option 2, as it would create alot of different sized containers for the database. the 3k jetcan and (class dependant size) ship remnant can option would only be introducing 5 more items to the database.
