ok, currently the salvaging profession has less risk than just about every other profession except trading (the sitting in station, never undock trading). I propose that wreck clusters draw in rats like asteroid belts do. Even when mining in a mission belt, you still get rats and have to take precautions. Most salvage ninjas dont have armaments on their salvage ships because as long as they dont get to eager and wait until a mission runner pops all the rats, they can salvage without risk. Just making system rats show up at wreck sites like they do at belts would balance this rather nicely.
Absolutely everything is subjective. |

You have to be AFK or dumb to lose a halfway decent missionship in a level 4 mission. ****, there are setups that can permatank the missions.
The fact that you think level 4 missionrunning is more risky than ninjasalvaging is...funny

Edited by: Aethrwolf on 08/07/2009 17:36:40 I've only ever lost 1 ship in a mission, and that was over a year ago. But I know ppl who lose them occasionally. I didnt say missioning was risky, just that it entails a bit more risk than the salvaging profession currently does. After all.. you ARE being shot at.
mostly this post is because I'm tired of the "OMG someone stole MY salvage!1111!!" posts that keep cropping up.
edit: the fact that a ninja flames a post about salvaging changes is... typical. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

You get shot at when you ninja too. Some MRs warp out, sometimes new triggers spawn and aggro you. The difference is that the ninja isn't in a heavily tanked mission BS. The ninja can't permatank the spawns.

You have no clue do you? I can speed tank your level 4 mission in my stabber while salvaging your wreaks even after you leave. ************************************************* I have three characters. One has Cov Ops V along with all the bells and whistles that goes with it. |

Depends on the mission, really.
If it's Blockade with 92735139525t24524 BS rats and almost no cruiser/frig rats then yeah, it's pretty easy. Some missions have significant amounts of cruiser/frig rats, though...and it's hard to tank when you have to slow down to loot.
With a LSEII I can normally nab a good number of wrecks before having to warp, though.

The ninja will be forced to warp out (salvaging frigates have a long align time c/d?) and warp back in. |

Not at all. The best ninja frigates are fast and agile. The Vigil is popular in our corp, and I can typically align and warp out in 2-3 seconds.

I would like to see wrecked ships blow up in your face when you fail to salvage them :) Something like 500 random damg at zero rest aoe blast.
But thats just me and it has nothing to do with salvagers themselfs just seams more real that wreched ships mite still blow up in your face when you go jack with them and miss a salvage attempt.

ok, dropping ANY pretext of subtlety.. and ropping my intention of not swearing in forums anymore. I am whats considered a carebear.. I run missions, I mine, I build stuff.. yadda yadda. AS a carebear I am sick and tired of other carebears constantly ****ing and moaning about ****ING salvage rights!! They *****, the ninjas ***** back.. everyone gets ****ed off about it. Any sane posts on the various hundreds of threads about this get buried in the ****ing flame war. I didnt post in salvage threads for a while cause I was sick of it.. I'm sick of seeing them, so I posted responses in another current thread asking ppl for more detailed responses/explanations.. NOT BECAUSE I PERSONALLY NEEDED THEM, but to hopefully get enough detailed quotes from multiple players to get ppl to STFU! I made myself look like an ass and an idiot that does not read to do this.. THIS post was a "toss the missionrunners a meaningless bone" idea to hopefully get them to shut up about it. I've been around long enough to KNOW that most of the ninjas arent worried about getting shot at. look, there will always be ninjas as long as there is salvage, it doesnt matter if they get flagged or not. I salvage most of my missions, but if theres someone in system asking for someplace to salvage I'm just as likely to offer to fleet them long enough for them to get to where "my" wrecks are, them unfleet them so I still get my bounties if I'm not done. Most I may ask is for a split of specific salvage items i may be looking for. Doesnt happen often.. WHY? because no one flippin asks, that's why. Aww hell.. why do I even bother trying? |

Thank you for clarifying my sarcasm and explaining away the laughable 'risk' of not having time to warp out in a salvaging frigate.. |

I'm not sure what your point was. Any competent ninja is paying attention to what the mission runner is doing, and behave appropriately.
Warping out when getting full mission agro is possible, but not fool-proof; everyone eventually loses a ship due to bad luck. With enough speed, speed-tanking BSes and even cruisers isn't hard enough. Small rats are more of an issue as they have much better tracking.
There's always a level of risk involved for the ninja. A NPC frigate with a web can cause pain, or a quality mission runner with an alpha-strike, if you've decided to loot the wrecks.
On the other hand, I'm not sure what "risk" is actually involved with mission running. Fit ship for sufficient tank, warp in, pew stuff, collect. Repeat. If you are noob and can't sufficiently tank, the rats might be able to break your tank, but in a large ship you'll have ages to GTFO.
On a frig with 1000hp it's a different story.
