THIS is almost how the forum looks like on a 1024x768 screen. So, why not make a minor change and make it look more LIKE THIS instead ?

Currently the standard screen size which over 50% of current screens uses for 2006 is either 1280x1024 17" or 19" 1440x900. this is screens used on normal office and home computers. Many gaming machines will use 1680x1050 being its standard.
You are correct that on laptops or notebooks which are becoming more common than desktops with 1024x720 will have a problem you showed.
Though i don't understand how the forums hasn't changed since 2004 when 1024x768 was the standard. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Just put that silly search box above the top right part of the forums, no need to have the entire grey bar for just it. that small change alone will go a long way..

Well, I personally run 1600x1200 on a 21" screen, but I seldom leave the forum on the entire screen, it usually takes up about 2/3 of the left side, with the 1/3 on the right side for other things. Either way, that's not the main issue, I can always put it on the entire screen easily. We used to have some pictures under the place where the search bar is now, but now it's just wasted space... almost 200 pixels taken up by a column that has nothing on it except the "search" button (and don't get me started on just how "useful" that button is, by the way).

haha yea, im usually about the same way with mine.. (1600x1050), firefox gets most of my screen, with a little bit on the right for desktop gadgets, and steam friends/chat gets the left.
And I completely agree - remove the search button. Its useless as it is.

Even so, I still consider 1024 a good width to design for because it allows the user to stack windows side by side (because full-screen is for nubs ) and also because the width Akita shows is roughly the upper limit of when legibility starts to suffer. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

In all fairness, I think that's probably along the least of the problems these forums have XD
I really do wish they would let me on just to work on these forums and clean 'em up and make them more user friendly and "better" in general... I've got a good bit of experience working with various forum softwares, so it wouldn't be entirely new to me. Please CCP, let me help you fix these forums front end wise! -------------------------- Wait, what now? Yes, I was Anubis Assassin, this will be my new main XD |
