hi cat here
I was wondering earlier about souls. I'm not sure how cloning technology works with the soul though lol. If my capulse gets brutally destroyed where does my soul go? Does it just fly away? Does it haunt rancer? Is it transferred to my next body? What happens to the clone donors soul? Do pirates even have souls?
so many questions remain unanswered lol!

Souls have no reason to exist, as they cannot be traded by market or contract.
Anything that cannot be traded is worthless... except Caldari people.
There is only one god, and her name is ISK !!

Pod Pilots have no Souls, that's the price you pay.
The question of Intelligence could be debated though.

All nonsense. Cloning and reincarnation cleanses the soul.

As I am immortal, I cannot die. I am my immortal soul and when the body dies, I just travel to the prepared new body. Being non-physical, distances for this transfer are meaningless.
(Of course you have to belief in a soul to begin with. And as soon as you do, you can make up the answers yourself, considering how there is no objective verification of the properties or even existence of a soul available.) -------- Ideas for: Mining

The twisted part about the cloning technology, is that it more than likely isn't the same person, just a copy with the same memories.
Which is pretty creepy, as you have literally, died, and someone else is now living your life with your memories. Even though they are , technically, you, it is still just a copy, and not the real thing.

Which brings one to the definition of identity. Is it in the body or is it in the memories and behavior? If you make a new experience is the new you a different person than the old you? Is a perfect copy really a different person when the original no longer exists but the copy instead continues to gather experiences and memories where the original stopped? Who are you anyway? -------- Ideas for: Mining

Souls are metaphysical parasites, they will infest any empty host. As they are not bound by time/space, they can easily get back into and old shell.

Edited by: Iasius on 09/07/2009 13:39:51 Edited by: Iasius on 09/07/2009 13:38:21 The idea of cloning in EVE and issues of the soul relates to the Ship of Theseus conundrum.
The Ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus's paradox, is a paradox that raises the question of whether an object which has had all its component parts replaced remains fundamentally the same object.
According to Greek legend as reported by Plutarch,
The ship wherein Theseus and the youth of Athens returned [from Crete] had thirty oars, and was preserved by the Athenians down even to the time of Demetrius Phalereus, for they took away the old planks as they decayed, putting in new and stronger timber in their place, insomuch that this ship became a standing example among the philosophers, for the logical question of things that grow; one side holding that the ship remained the same, and the other contending that it was not the same.
In essence could it be ever possible to copy and store the soul for a new human body to assimilate.
In my opinion there are 6.5 billion humans on planet Earth that have souls and each is a source of power that flows into another dimension.
If mankind ever developed a technology for capturing souls then to many using a conventional human body would be superfluous as one could superceed limitations of travel in normal 3d time and space.
Scifi in tv and film is mostly limited about advanced views on future human development. But a lot of sci-fi books deal with races that out evolve their own body and sublime into higher plains of existance.

Humans have farm stock to feed them. Aliens use human soul energy to feed them.

i would not think so much on these question as they lead you oly into greater confusion
the truth is there is only one soul
it is your true self
timeless
unchanging
it cant be figured out with the head
head is always jumping future past future past basicly a snake eating itself up and hat remains is that what always has been: you

How are we sure that we don't die before we go to sleep and the one that wakes up the next day is an entirely different person just with the same memories and body. How are we sure that our soul passes in our sleep and a doppelganger takes its place everyday.

I read a book called 'the years of rice and salt'. engrossing alternative history book. It talked about characters that died and seemed to go through buddhist type passages through hell and stuff like that. One character came back as a tiger.
I would love to be reincarnated as a tiger. nom nom nom. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. ~Saint |

This. Everyone who has been podded is already dead, the new clone is just a.. Clone. Organic machine with the memories of your past life planted into it. Living corpses, zombies, aaaaagh!
The only way a capsuleer can find peace is to get podded hard enough so the cloning isn't possible anymore, so go out there and pod the zombies people to give them their salvation!
