Has anyone seen the SyFy Eve commercial, the one with Noir driving his Nyx into the caldari station?
On my end it's a horribly pixelated mess that makes Eve look like it was created by a bunch of kids. It's the only commercial I've seen in such condition so I know it's not my TV.
CCP, take a look at that mess and get SyFy to make it look right and proper and show all the majesty that Eve has to offer... oh, and recompense pay my subs for life. ;D

yeah, they did it a while ago as a rebrand for the sci-fi channel.
They claimed that the new name was how people wrote it whilst texting - yeah sure, if you're ******ed

While I'm watching a "syfy" original movie about familiar animals that are bigger than normal and on a rampage I've already turned my brain off. I never even noticed Eve footage in sci fi channel commercials.

I saw it when it was first being run on Sci-Fi, during BSG, and it looked perfectly fine when I saw it.

Yes, when it was being run during Battlestar Galactica it was flawless and as impressive as you'd expect.
I usually have my tube on, like a radio, while I'm gaming and when I heard the narrative I looked over to see a complete hash of Eve video. I mean, truly atrocious nuub FRAPS stuff.
Get 'em straight, CCP.

Any channel that is ashamed to call themselves Sci-fi when they are supposedly a sci-fi channel is totally lacking in sense and balls. Their target audience is not good enough for them, so they want to confuse viewers that might accidentally happen upon the station into thinking that maybe its about "Siffy" whatever that is.
really appalling management at that station.

I can confirm this. Pointed it out in another thread. It is pretty much the slang for syphillis, or filth.

SyFy = Filth. Hrmm, then perhaps the marketing apartment who decided to use it to denote the Science Fiction genre are on to something.

According to press release on the channels website part of the reason they changed name from scifi to syfy is cause they couldnt trademark and copyright "Scifi".
So they made "Syfy" which they can trademark and copyright.
stupid move really

Sci-fi channel sold out. They changed the name in an effort to attact women. Then they remade BSG into a lame drama because mostly only men watched the series.
Its kind of like CCP making goth video game aimed at teen-age girls.

You're right--it still has very little actual science fiction after the name change.
Regardless, if you read interviews about the rebranding, they basically insulted sci-fi fans and basically saying we want to get away from the whole "sci-fi" thing. That didn't go over well.
Imagine if Eve changed its name to "Eeyv" and CCP said that "People who play games about internet spaceships are socially-inept losers who live in their mom's basement. We want to appeal to mainstream people and especially women." How do you think that would go over? That's basically what they did.
If you think I'm making this up, read some quotes from an article:
Quote: ôThe name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,ö said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network.
Quote: ôWe spent a lot of time in the Æ90s trying to distance the network from science fiction, which is largely why itÆs called Sci Fi,ö Mr. Brooks said. ôItÆs somewhat cooler and better than the name æScience Fiction.Æ But even the name Sci Fi is limiting.ö
(emphasis added in the above quotes) Source
Now that BSG is over, I doubt I'll ever watch the channel again. I'm disappointed that Eve advertised on it since the rebranding. The execs have made it quite clear that the channel isn't about science fiction.

Quote: On March 16, 2009, Sci Fi announced that it would be changing its name to Syfy, to end confusion over how to capitalize and stylize their name and as part of an on-going rebranding effort. Network officials also noted that, unlike the generic term "sci fi" which represents the entire science fiction genre, the term "Syfy" can be protected by trademark and therefore would be easier to market on other goods or services without fear of confusion with other companies' products. The only significant previous use of the term "Syfy" in relation to science fiction was by the website Syfy Portal, which became Airlock Alpha after selling the brand to NBC Universal (represented by a shell company) in February.[5] Reaction to the new name has been largely negative.[6][7] The new name took effect on July 7, 2009.[8]

Not just that, but they've been actively trying to distance themselves from science fiction. Read the quotes in my post a few up from this one. They also insult science fiction and its fans.

That advertisement is the worst thing which I ever saw about Eve.
Honestly ... WTF??
What does that ad say about Eve? NOTHING. It has NOTHING to do with what a player can do in Eve. It has NOTHING to do with any actual gameplay in Eve. It is a complete distortion of Eve.
Why don't you show some fleetbattles 500 vs 500? All player driven?? Why not some nice pvp action? Why not, arg, so many other things which are totally better than that ad, grrrr!

LOL...no doubt.
Most of the people in those "500 v. 500" fights didn't see them, either.
