Just wondering how do people solo camp gates? I mean what is your plan if a gang all at once warps in to the gate you camping? Let's say you're in a Brutix how do you do this w/o eyes on other gate?
Do you just remain align to a safespot and if the heat is too much you bail?
I'm trying to work up my courage to attempt to solo camp our gate in 0.0 but alas never know if it just one 'scout'/bait or a massive army on other side. I dont want them to get my cold frozen corpse and laugh how I was silly for trying to solo camp a gate :(
My main plan was to maybe try it in an Arazu someday and remain aligned to a ss. So if a vagabond or something fearsome jumps in just hit cloak and warp away in a hurry :(

What is this word 'solo' you speak of?
A new word added to the dictionary I haven't read about yet?
On a serious note:
Idk, maybe try it with a bubble on the gate, pick an only moderately traveled area, if its to heavily traveled your sure to get the blob ganked, if its not traveled, well, you not gonna get any targets lol
since your in 00, no gate guns, I would do it in a Battlecruiser, like the trusty ol' myrmidon, sensor boosted w/ a bubble, should be able to get alot of targets, bigger targets (like battleships) probably not, but if your lucky you can get anything battlecruiser sized and below.
also, if your gonna be solo camping, you cant be afraid of dying and be aligned to a safespot if a 'fearsome' vagabond appears, lol
if your aligned to a safespot, you already lose one advantage you have, your aligned to a safe, and something non 'fearsome' appears, you cant get the first shot off since your gonna have to get in range of your target

ugh this is so sad well guess what I will is try to duo this with a friend. Post him on other side of gate to help reduce my risk. Just go off grid of the gate on other side but within direction scanner range to help me identify our prey.

depending on what you're trying to catch put some bubbles up and sit in a safe spot 200 km from the gate. If anything gets stuck that can't get out fast enough, warp in and kill it.

How to successfully solo gate camp:
1) Have covops alt on the far side. Having eyes on both sides makes it impossible to get jumped unless you're asleep.
2) Do it in places that are fairly safe - heavy blue presence and good intel channels.
3) Don't solo camp if there's reds in the system. It only takes one guy to lock you down long enough for everyone else to get there. This is doubly true if the gate you're camping goes to someplace you can't jump into (like highsec if you have bad sec. status). Hell, if there's reds in the system you should be with your buddies tracking them down, not sitting at a gate with your thumb up your ass.

Unless you enjoy having a thumb up the ass. then by all means. But you should still be tracking the reds down. __________________ Look, a forum alt! |

If you're really going solo as in 1 character then you're pretty much done with "warp away if something bigger comes"
2 characters work but 3 is best. 2 scouts on 2 systems scouting and you picking stuff off in relative safety

Get in a ship like a destroyer or cruiser and take a tour of 0.0 and see how people do it. Practice running gate camps, and see which setups get you killed. Lots of the gates in Syndicate have camps, there was a very nice one in the Great Wildlands the other day. Go there and die. They are very willing to educate you with their laser beams.

Thanks alot all. Yeah sounds like I'm going to need to have some eyes on the other side to feed me some intel. Since it's in my own corp's region hopefully Intel will be good enough to indicate if we will get possibly zerged.
I'll just have to try one of the better spots in the center of our system rather than the 'entrances' on the outskirts of our space. This way I can reduce chance of zerging
I'll look into anchoring a bubble and I hope i dont get my own blues killed if they accidently jump into it and a red is there.

I think theres only one launch option for it. but regardless, the bubble effects everyone, and bubbles especially love blues at the worst times.

This is definatly the case ...A Bubble does not discriminat!!! EVERYBODY gets bubbled. However you can decise who pickes up your bubble - when inevitibly you die and get podded back to the stone age..lol I been waiting to use that line ..hehe.. any way back to topic...if you launch for self you will get bubbled less you get out quicker that it sets..then you alone can collect it- This is not a good idea less you weeeeeely dont trust your corp mates or you are a spy dropping bubbles on your own gangs (id use launch for corp).
This does not mean i condone the use of bubbles with solo ganking.
Get in somat nice n fast with a decent dammage, n scram, go find a miner or ratter n kill them...those were the good old days.
I'M still in mourning for the nerfed vaga.......
loots the wreck get out b4 anybody has a chance to form up a blob against you.
Solo in 0.0 is one of those things you have to learn the hard way.. Try it ..Kill/die some ...then try something else..just have fun doing it!
Eventually you will get good at it.

You can launch then for self or corp, but its only about who can unanchor them not who they catch, bubbles catch all the landing with in 100 km of the edge of the bubble and have a warp rute the will or have gone through the bubble.
But back to the subject: I like to solo camp with a catch bubble in a pipe system. What you do is put a drag bubble and make a on grid bookmark that you can use to warp on and off the catch point off the bubble. Then you set at the catch point and wait for stupid people warp to 0 at your gate and kill them. The way to know if you have to warp off is scanning and when the ship is within 14 AU you know what he is flying. A other thing to remember is to move system ones in a will, so they dont know where you are camping and come and kill you.

You pretty much answered your own question right there. The only thing you'll catch solo on a gate is a non-stabbed hauler, BS, or potentially a BC or frigates/cruisers with AB fitted. Otherwise you're relying on them to engage you such that they can't jump.
You could instead try using a sling bubble off a gate.
Bottom line: It is not easy to force an engagement in eve.

use sucking buble and cloaking recon like rapier or pilgrim is also solution. just wait cloaked near buble and spam scanning button. once you see anything on it, just decide if you can kill it or not. if yes decloak and engage, if not just still quiet and wait

Sling bubble on a gate in a system with only two gates. Safe 300km off the bubble. Use the scanner and pick your fights.

Two gate system with a bubble anchored inline with the other gate. Multiple ship options depending on what youre trying to kill. Your ship should be positioned just outside your bubble, inline with the gate people are warping from.
Frigate killers (killing cloaked covops by timing their warp and anticipating their coming out is particularly satisfying): 1) Raven with Smart Bombs and 3 Warp Core Stabilizers. 2) Scorpion with Smart Bombs, ECM, sensor booster, warp disruptor.
Cruiser and larger sized ship killers - fit short range weapon systems and have drones out. With 2 sensor boosters you might even be able to tackle frigates: 1) Dominix 2) Typhoon
Note that if you anchor your bubble 70km behind the gate, you can position yourself between your prey and the gate. At this distance off, you should be able to align/warp before any hostiles jumping in from the close gate can burn and tackle you.

stay at 2k at the gate and do not aggress until you are sure you can handle it. If a gang comes in let them aggress you and then jump through the gate...

Solo gate camp:
1) Set a small mobile bubble 90 km behind a gate. Make sure its in line with the incoming gate. This will pull the target 90 km past the gate and into your bubble.
2) Sit off grid but near the bubble or next to the bubble. If your worried about recons then sit in an off grid SS near the bubble. The recon will know you are somewhere but would have to probe you out.
3)If a target enters system hit your scanner. If you detect something incoming you can decide if you can take it or not. If it takes a while for a target to appear( longer than it would take to warp to your gate) then assume either they checked for ratters or bounced of a SS. Either way they will prob miss your bubble.
Reason why bubble so far behind the gate:
If you don't have eyes in the other system having the bubble so far back will prevent you getting jumped on. You will also miss anything that jumps into you. If a hostile jumps in you will be 90km away from them and you can get out.
If you want to sit on a gate and camp then you need to have a scout on the other side of the gate.
