Only really good Proteus setup I've seen so far is the one with a ridiculous buffer (400K if you spend a little, 600k if you spend a lot) that does most of it's damage with drones. I think DHB Wildcat used one very much like it.
It sucks with an Active tank though so if you're sticking 2 reppers on it it's just going to drop like a stone. It's made for buffer.

You spent how many billions for a measly 250 dps and 500 tank? Really?
I have to agree with this.
Now, I can certainly see the "it's fun" line of argument, but the question remains: how on earth did you manage to get so litte out of all that stuff? You're outdamaged and outtanked by a standard T2-Fit Myrm — even a Blasterazu will outperform what you claim you've built. How?!

It would be, but it's not going to happen because it would obsolete the ishtar. It actually wouldn't, because the proteus lacks mids but ccp still won't do it.

Blue underwear actually perform slightly better in case of a wet one. ______

Oh god lol
Oh god lol is right!! What exactly are you trying to achieve here?
That over-size AB gives you the agility of a carrier so obviously you are not perma-running it at your optimal. A 10Mn MWD II would serve you better to get you to your optimal and you wouldn't need those expensive grid rigs.
A tracking disruptor? TD is leaving you with no cap defence, my Sentinel could put your cap down in 30 secs with no way for you to recover. No cap = no tank, no guns, no tackle.....one very expensive sitting duck.

Far be it from me to defend crappy setups, but I guess the idea behind a 100mn AB could be to enable you not only to get in range, but to gtfo when needed, where a scrambled MWD will do nothing.
Don't think I'd fit one though.

Would this be more so than the Ishtar vs the Vexor? It's certainly much less so than it already is with Proteus vs Deimos.
As a Gallente who was encouraged down the drones route you get to the point where there is very little to move on to after the Ishkur/Ishtar/Domi without effectively ditching the drone skills and retraining very heavily into hybrids. The trouble is not that the Proteus is a little bit weaker, it's 20% weaker with heavies/sentries, which is a lot to claw back. Personally, I'd rather they dropped a turret if it meant they could add another 25Mbps to the drone bandwidth.
It seems the Proteus's best attribute is its huge potential to buffer tank. This makes it an interesting choice for PvP but being liable to become a bit of a trophy target may not make it the best choice.
Outside of PvP it seems that it could perform a number of roles but none of them very well nor with a great capbility to multi-role. As you say, the 3 mid-slots you get in 'drone' configurations certainly limit flexibility. One of those is probably going to be an AB/MW or you may as well fly a BS.

Had one fitted for lev4s, very very nice in conjection with bs alt,
I will end up swithing subs for pvpfitting, but currently unheated I can get 90 + resits all rond and one rep perma running (rests per level, cap and turret damage + tractor beem speed range, or scifc resits and reel nice dps for a cruiser. U can go for 2 rps and irons + small nos, small cap injector but u would need power grid per level to get good rail fitting

Your time isn't free right? Mining the minerals to build your own ship doesn't make it free. You could have taken those minerals and sold them. Likewise, building your own T3 ship doesn't make it free - all the components you put together to have one could have been sold. You could have built the ship and sold it. That's what it costs to fly.
Its not dumb to fly an expensive ship - its fun. Just make sure its more fun than being able to buy a fleet of T2/T1 ships for the same investment.

The dps difference between med electrons and light nutrons is like 40dps. The setup is not for damage, which is why its called hotdrop and has a cyno gen fitted. youre all doing it wrong you want the drone offensive sub so you can carry 2xogre 2 hammer 1 hob, you can then put a few blasters and nos in the highs and keep full lowslot tank without loosing dps, ofc you want the scram sub too that thing rocks (domi scram ftw) Signature graphics that may only contain your character name, corporation logo, corporation or personal slogan or other text that is directly related to your in-game persona, or content directly related to Eve Online. I dont get this "unprobable" thing, ive seen it on a few threads claiming you cant be probed. Is this based on sig radius or sensor strenght because you can probe out pods and drones so why not ships with warfare links? _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

If you can get your sig radius/sensor strength ratio to above a certain limit, you can make yourself impossible to probe out.
Drones have a high radius/low sensor strength, and the same for pods, where as the fit above is very high sensor strength and low sig radius. ________________________________________________ For changes to Minmatar Battleships click here (also with a review of the Muninn!) |

They aren't rich mans ships, they are ships for ppl who want to keep training subsystems lvl 5 all the time and stall their characters. T3 crusiers are only usefull when subsystems are at lvl5, at lvl4 they are just like t2.

We run a lot of armor tanked BC gangs (with logistics) in MT. This would probably be the best place to take a proteus (as far as gangs go), whereas someting such as a loki or tengu would be very well suited for a nano hac gang (much higher speed/agility and shield tanked).
I'm at work so I don't have the setup on me, but with my implants (slaves) the setup I came up with with had about 250K EHP and 900 dps (overloaded). I would say that is a very clear increase over a Deimos. As an ishtar replacement, unfortuantely, it fails simply because the drone sub is somewhat lacking. Is it worth the current cost of a fully fitted T3 cruiser? That's up to you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |
