... to educate me!
That's right, My corporation has decided we would like to make a tutorial Video to teach our newer pilots how to fly in Eve!
We looked into fraps but we need a program that we can record what were doing with Free of charge, Of course it will most likely have a water stamp on it but feel free to tell me what you all know. Fraps only offered 30 seconds per recording thus it was not suitable for the task. Something that can record a few minutes at least is what were aiming for.
Thank you - Emperor

WeGame offers a very high quality recorder for games. Seeing that it is a youtube like thing designed for game videos in mind. I have tested it and was very impressed by the quality it could offer by performance compared to the full quality fraps provides which kills my framerate. (Even with a 4890)
It does require sign-up, but it is completely free and uses a lot less CPU and GPU compared to fraps and still provides decent enough quality for recording. You can also edit the videos together in your favourite editor to add the effects, compression and whatnot. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

While fraps is specifically geard for games (and you wont get any better for that), the only real alternative is Cam Studio which is a general screen capture program. Unless you plan on paying for capture cards or pro capture software making it overkill but effective for your needs. Then again, fraps doesn't cost that much but is far less flexible. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Other than what has been suggested, you could try Taksi which is opensource.

Another free alternative to add to the previously mentioned, Xfire. It's main use is a chat interface for gamers but it also has the ability to record videos. Can't remember how long videos can be through Xfire, I think it doesn't have a limit for recording but a 200mb upload limit for their site.

I love open source, but sadly it doesn't support audio grabbing :(

Xfire. Its what I use and works very well for a totally free program.
From there install Audacity for audio editing and VirtualDub (with all the CCCP codecs) to encode into a usable format. I knew a decent open source video editor. Blender is great but waaaaaaaaay too complex to be used for simple tasks.
