So, i've been messing around in Dodixie all day and something is starting to **** me off. Marauders. Normally, Marauders, with their battleship sized hull should be simple to find, and it being my first time probing out Marauders, I thought it'd be just like probing out a Battleship.
So, I set my filter for Battleships & Marauders, and finding and getting Battleships is just as simple as probing out cosmic anomalies. Marauders... Something is wrong. I probe them to 4AU, get a red dot, and then center+scan again until I get a yellow dot. I drop to 2AU, just like I would with a battleship, center and hit the scan button... And the Marauder disappears. Gone. Totally. 15+ times today, and it's starting to **** me off.
Then, I tried staying at 4 AU until I got a really high scan strength, and dropping. Then the dot went from yellow to red, and moved off in a direction. I followed @ 2AU again, scan+wait, and then the ship is gone. I move the probes back to the original place and scan again, and the red dot shows up in THE SAME PLACE IT JUST WASN'T.
I'd like someone to test+confirm this, otherwise attribute it as I'M DOING IT WRONG.

Edited by: Future Mutant on 15/07/2009 01:33:38 Odds are the filter is filtering out the scan... If this is happening you get a hit, narrow it down far enough for your settings to realize its something that should be filtered out, it filters the hit out and the dot disappears. You can then put your probes back in the exact same spot but at a larger radius, which gets you a signal of a low enough strength that it registers as a dot again.

I was going to say "Aha! Scanning success is based on the target's size and sensor strength, and marauders have a very low sensor strength!" But then I realised that that should actually make them easier to scan since the smaller a target or the higher it's sensor strength the harder it is to find, so now I don't know. Sorry. |

This is why.. Scanning is based on 'Ship' until it is at a high enough percentage to determine what type of ship it is.

Marauders are very easy to scan out. I can get a warpable hit with 8 AU probes.
You are experiencing a scanning bug. Either a) Hit "edit filter" and then save it again to reset it, or b) Just go to "show all"

ever considered the marauder pilots are a bit more careful/paranoid than the battleship ones and they cloak up or warp out if they see scanner probes on their directional?
or he went from one mission room to the other one, aka: he moved?
if you want to do some tests, to it with a friend and tell him to stay still for a while.
oh and: eccm... tho i don't think any mission runner will waste slots on fitting them.

Either that (most likely) or alternatively ... them damn marauders are so overpowered that they complete and salvage L4s before you can scan them down. ---

strange i normally get a yellow or sometimes a green hit on marauders with 16-8AU probes
try spreading out your probes a little and make sure you have marauders ticken in the menu

i've experienced the same thing - not necessarily with marauders and it has nothing to do with filters. there have been times when you get down to the 1-2 AU scan range and the dot disappears and if you move the probes back to original location and range, it still isnt there.
Like someone else posted, I just assume the guy is done with the mission and left...

Too true... Typically, I aim to finish missions(rooms) in under 10 in one. I also clean-up as I go along to keep things tidy.

The filter don't magically remove any unidentified ship that is not a BS/Marauder. It remove the identified ships that aren't one or the other, so it work only when you get a hit of a strength sufficient to identify the ship.
What you should do is to use the directional scanner to verify if there is a marauder/BS in the area you are scanning. If you don't see a marauder/BS in the target area with your directional scanner you are simply chasing a different class ship that hasn't jet been identified as such.

Yep, I figured this out 11 posts ago
All the carebears were too consumed with hate for ninja looters/salvagers that they had to put their (worthless) word in though.

Filters used to work but it was too easy to spot those CNRs, so CCP probably made it difficult. Just use Show All, that way you'll get to spot the MR drones too, and evaluate its position.
