I need help. The game keeps randomly crashing or shutting off. It's more of a shut off then a crash, because my system doesn't hang up. The client just disappears -- the application ended.
Every now and again I will get a BSOD with no reference to drivers. They used to reference to nv4_disp.dll, but I downgraded my nvidia drivers to an earlier version and now the BSOD doesn't mention nv4_disp.dll, it's just a general BSOD.
I'm using Nvidia build 53.03, but it's just as bad as the most recent NVIDIA driver build. I've used 4 other Nvidia driver builds as well.
My system specs are: AMD 2800 Athlon XP 512 ram Video card in subject title Onboard sound Onboard lan
Someone please help me. The Eve help was useless. Their resp. was "Try upgrading your nvidia drivers!" Well I tried that, and it doesn't work.
PLEASE *begs*

Im also getting this problem on both my systems, specs as follows:-
P4 3.0 1024MB Ram GForce 4 Ti4200
Athlon XP2600+ 512MB Ram Gforce FX5200
I used to be able to run both clients from my old system (the above listed Athlon) but now i cannot do this, as soon as i load the 2nd client the 1st dissapears, im now using 2 computers to get help fix this until the problem is sorted out.
Now im still getting the error at random and on both computers, sometimes as soon as i load the game.
Im using the 53.03 drivers on both machines cos there apparently the best drivers for eve.
This really does need sorting out, the stability of Eve is gradually getting worse for me. ive done formats and ive done re installs but these solve nothing, updateing the drivers on the graphics is a waste of time for me cos the stations then turn into wireframe shells.
as stated above please help, somebody must have a solution to this problem or at least know what causes it

Pls post what the "general" BSOD says. From the info there you can often figure out causes of problems.
On the 2 clients problem, you have two paralell installations and keep antialiasing off, right? _________________________________________________________

You see, the thing is that the BSOD doesn't show up more than 1/10 crashes. It basically just says the system is dumping and going to restart and there's a counter, counting up. I usually just hit restart at this point.
I wish I could tell you exactly what it says, but last time I looked there was no reference driver. Before it was nv4_disp.dll, but now there is no reference file.
I thought it was my video card and AMD processor, but I'm starting to think it's EVE's incompatability with this hardware. There MUST be a way to resolve this.
The frequency of these crashes is so much that I will discontinue my paying and active account if I cannot find a remedy, or I feel like I'm being jerked around.

There is allways a resolution. We just need to find out what is is in this particular instance.
I have been moderating theese boards for a couple of years and taken part in a few discussions on theese kinds of issues. First I would like to point you to the support section of this website. If you have not looked there I recommend you do that. It has a knowledgebase where earlier solutions are posted.
A common thing with BSODs that are not related to drivers are overheating problems. Eve puts much strain on the hardware of your computer and this can cause it to overheat. Especially if you have an overclocked CPU or GPU. Do you have any menas of measuring the temperature of your CPU and GPU? _________________________________________________________

My case is 30 degree F, MyCPU diode is 32 degrees, and my CPU socket is -95 degrees. All of this info is from a program called Motherboard Moniter.
I understand the overheating problem, but the counter to that idea is that I can immediately reload the client and begin to play again, usually for longer each time I reload. So I will play for 10 mins, and it'll crash. Then I'll immediately load the client up again and play for 30 mins, then crash, and repeat the process until I'm so damn fed up with it that I quit trying.

Well i WAS going to buy a GF 5600 ultra. Has this problem been fixed by anyone yet? Am i safe buying this gfx card? I have had nothing but problems with ATI cards and wish to go back to nvidia. My current card is a radeon 9200 and the hardware is failing on it (typical green matrix effect on boot up). I have been impressed with previous GF cards and wish to return to them. I dont want to have to go and buy a 9600 pro instead of a 5600 ultra (on a tight budgit). If anyone could shed some light on this i would be greatful. ---

Hi, this Problem is getting worse than ever now
Yes Jehova, i was runnign two seperate versions (copied the main directory), Sun occlusion is off (this problem does seem to have the same effect tho, the client just dropps completely, no BSOD or anything). AA is curently set to application controled, (just unchecked this and will post back if it effects anything).
To give an example of how bad this problem is for me atm, ive just moved 32 jumps and must have crashed (client not PC) at least 15 times, ive been lucky so far that ive not had any losses through this.
My System is completely Stable and runs as cool as ice, ive since updated one of my clients to Shiva for testing, ive noticed that this is much more stable so far.

I am having the same problem. Just not as often. Most often it happens when i am afk in a station. Or looking at the market at a station. I crashed and dumps the memory and the restarts the computer. After restart i says there's a error with the nv4_disp.dll. And i am using the latest nvidia drivers. (66.93)
AMD Athlon 2500+ 512 ram (2 * 256) Asus Geforce 4 Ti 4200 creative 5.1 soundblaster

Here's my symptoms:
Play game and dock (usually docked) Cursor goes all corrupted and I can't click on anything Few seconds later the screen goes black Few seconds after that the monitor loses signal
Now, if I'm REALLY lucky, the ATI VPU recover thing kicks in and I don't have to reset my PC. Usually this isn't the case :/
System is:
AMD 2700+ Thoroughbred ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 1GB RAM (just normal ram - not the super expensive and not that much better stuff) MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
Every other game I have runs perfectly.

Edited by: Nyxus on 10/12/2004 03:33:36 Ok I feel better. Exact same thing happening to me, on a VERY similar system. Methinks I see a trend here.
I ctd all the time, but expecially when I am fighting. I have monitored my heat output, and it is not a problem. All of eve just...ends. I can restart it again right away too. I get the occasional BSOD, checking the logs it appears to be a graphics driver problem sometimes, but other times it just says "memory dump". Occasionally Eve will just...bog down. It drops to 1fps or less and I can actually hear the HD chugging along. It crashes, or I restart Eve and immediately afterwards 20fps no problem.
All my drivers are current. System specs as follows GeForce FX 5600 (256 onboard) 512 megs RAM SB 5.1 soundcard AMD Thunderbird 1.4 Epox 8k7a mobo

Yup same symptoms here. I get the non-traumatic ending where the client just closes. I have to give it about 30 seconds before it'll successfully reopen it - if I try too soon it closes mid-reopening. I also get the BSOD while playing - the BSOD flashes up for about half a second saying something about a Memory Dump (can't read anything else - too fast) and then the computer reboots. I also have the scrambled graphics problem where the text of News and Market is garbled.
I have the following: GeForce 440 Go 64M 512 Ram in two sticks P III probably - if not P4
I've upgraded video drivers, I've downgraded, I've taken the option and non-optional patches - nothing has worked. I occasionally got the BSOD playing EVE before - had it 5 times in a month - but with Exodus the closures and BSODs are so frequent I have stopped playing the game for fear of damaging my computer or getting podded whilst locked out of the game.

The original messages of this thread are pretty old so what you more recent posters are experiencing might be a different problem.
If the BSOD just flashed by you can open System in the Control Panel. On the Advanced tab, click Startup and Recovery, and under System Failure, deselect Automatically reboot.
Now you will be able to read the BSOD. Look at it and post what is says here. I or someone else may be able to help you then.
