Do you have to just avoid being hit in the first place or are there skills/equipment that can let you get free once you have been webbed? Or are you merely doomed if you get webbed and can't blow up your enemies before they blow you up?

Once yopu are webbed your only options are to:
(1) attempt to get out of range (unlikley)
(2) Blow up the webbing ship
(3) jam the webbing ship (which for npcs is not that useful)
For higher up missions webbing is not that big of a deal, unless you use a ship that relies on speed, most Battleships can ignore webbing altogethor.
It really depends on the situation of webbing you are experienceing, if its in missions the best course is to get the webbing ship before the dps gets to great for yours. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Yup, pretty much those are the options. You can try to install afterburners or MWD's and burn out of range, you can blow up the ship that's webbing you, or ECM jam it so it loses target lock.
If NPC's webify you, kill them second (you always kill the NPC's that warp-disrupt you first, so you can warp out if needed).
If players webify you, the most common use is at a gate camp, to prevent you from reaching the gate and jumping back the way you came. If that's the case, and you're running not fighting, your best bet is to afterburn back to the gate and hope you make it.

On that note, if I'm webbed or warp nullified, how do I know which ship is the one jamming me or whatever. Last time I got webbed I tried to see but it was not immediately clear. For that matter are there any icons that show me what effects are on me from enemies? I was definitely webbed but i was not sure who to target.....

Edited by: Merouk Baas on 16/07/2009 00:10:58 The Overview.
Players (EDIT: or NPC's) who are targetting you will have flashing yellow brackets in the first column of the Overview, right next to their name. Once they open fire or activate any aggressive module the brackets will turn red. Any jamming or webifying will put a small jammer or webifier icon on the right side of the Overview, by their ship.

Always leave a little gap on the right of your overview after the last column to allow EWAR icons to show. When you get webbed, scrammed, painted, damped or jammed a little icon will show up next to the enemy who is attacking you. This is in addition to the red flashing bracket around the icon.
To test this, get a corp mate to web you and look for the icon (if your overview is setup properly for PvP, then your corp mate may not be on the overview - you may need to temporarily chage that).

ECM drones can be a handy get out when webbed by a smallish ship.
Webbing them back and destroying them works well if you're bigger ( e.g. BC vs. Frigate )

I lost my 1st destroyer last night in the "Burning Down the Hive" mission when in the last room I was blocked from warping; and even though I read this post, I could not find the NPC ship(s) that were blocking me in order to take them out.
Does the eWar icons only show to the right of the overview?
Does it show on the overview itself, or to the right of it?
When you target an NPC, is there any indication in the target window area that the NPC is doing the web, warp scrambling, etc?
Thank you.
P.S. While I was humbled in the loss experience (while insured, I had over 1 million in modules -- 700,000 just for the small armorer repair II), I was able to reconfigure and go back to finish the mission. But I would still like to know how to find who is web/warp scrambling me.

On your overveiw - look at the rats shooting you, little symbols will come up next to their name if they are webbing/scramming/neuting you.
Not sure if this is dependant on your overview settings? (I mean obviously you need to see the npcs on your overviews but in respect of the effect icons).

I believe that it's possible to turn off the webify/warp inhibitor notification in the overview settings. The symbols themselves aren't all that evocative (pale blue splodge for webify for example) but if you mouse over them it will tell you what the effect is.

The symbols appear INSIDE the overview window, but at the far right. Your overview will be setup with a number of columns (like a spreadsheet). The last column is blank, but may actually be hidden if your window isn't big enough. You need to resize the overview window to fit all your overview columns + a little bit of the blank column at the end for the symbols to show.
I hope that makes sense.
