Disclaimer: If you hate "I quit" posts you should probably stop reading further.
So, I quit.
After nine years of being a faithful EVE subscriber (never used PLEX for my main account) time has come to retire. Never were a member of a big corporation (>5 members) and travelled 99% of the time on my own, so what did I spend my time on?
Well, I went exploring and documented my findings. The Amarr and Caldari COSMOS constellations as well as all the epic arcs both in Empire Space (Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar and SoE) and in Zero Sec (Guristas and Angel). At one time I grabbed a Zephyr and spend a couple of weeks in w-space looking at the various sites. I also managed to start a collection of lore bits from various mission briefings and gathered them into a Lorebook.
I tried my luck with some not so common production and went to explore the process of booster production on my own, eventually gathering my experience in a guide on this generally unknown topic.
Crucible was the highlight of my career, though, as through the influence of the Arek'Jaalan Live Event I got inspired to produce a number "scientific" articles (fictional science in a science fiction world) and for months spend nearly more time on the Evelopedia than on the EVE Client. Thank you for whoever made that wiki. I got to write theories on the Talocans, Yan Jungs, Sleepers and Jovians. Even got my writing and name on in-game objects; quite a feat in my book. Sadly, after the peak at Crucible anything related to A'J and Live Events came to a complete halt, something that could be said for Storyline development in EVE in general.
Never were much a roleplayer; except for my writing. My aim was never to engage with others in RP sessions and gatherings, but immerse myself in the world of EVE and explore it like it was real on its on merit and not an extension of the Real World. If there is a term as 'immersionist' I am that.
Never did much shooting at other players either; spend a year living out of Low Sec running missions for the Blood Raiders and casually engage miners here and there. Realized that when I have the option to cause another person grief/annoyance just because I can, my choice is not to do so. I was a lousy pirate and eventually stopped in that profession, but I met many good people among Low Sec pirates and learned not to discriminate people based on preferred play style.
If you wonder why I stop playing now (if not, stop reading here) it is, amazingly how it might sound to some, because Inferno is providing nothing for me to set new goals. And, having barely logged in for the last three months, it is safe to conclude I am done here. Bitter? No. I will be a father in a few weeks; this disinterest in EVE could be biological conditioned. I would like to say a sincere thank you for several of your contributions, especially those on COSMOS. They've been an invaluable aid and time-saver. Hope you can keep those docs alive/accessible, worse case, pawn them off if/when that becomes a problem.
I'd say keep the training up (you'll never know when you might pop back once in a while), but if you're running a 100+mil SP character(s) you can probably afford an indefinite extended lapse. Be well.

Dear CCP: Take note. When one of your veterans, famed for previously taking pleasure and pride in underhand 'in the spirit of EVE' tactics, begins to lose interest, it should be considered a key benchmark.
Take extreme note. Perhaps, even tattoo it onto your forehead backwards, so when you look in the mirror, you shall not forget.

I was around since 2002 when Eve was a forum. I fell in love with the idea of Eve. Still in love, but bored of the available stuff. Thus I crusade for more stuff for old farts like me. Veteran restricted content that gives us ancients some ass-kicking bonuses for our 100+ million skillpoints (pushing 130 personally, got corpmates around 150-170.)
I see vets like the OP leaving because they've... run out of stuff to chase. I want to see veteran-only ships added to Eve, and I want them not to suck. I'm pretty confident I can get my wish. Once I start screaming about something (5th Zealot turret, 2nd Retri mid) it tends to happen, over the long term... ;) |

Thanks for all the best wishes.
Cute to tell me to continue my skill training while away; I am far past the point were advancing in skill points bring me anything to achieve, but thanks for the notion. And yes, that is what I am missing; something new to achieve. I too created my own content (as evident by all the stuff I have written) but nine years is a long time and now I appear to have run out of targets to aim for. Probably the nicest 'i quit' post ive ever read. Congrats on the forthcoming ankle biter o7.
Arek'jalaan grabbed me a while ago - when i caught the mention (in a Chronicle i believe) then found out there was in game stuff going on (very late - COUGH) i had vision of a live questing system going on, some totally genuine on-the-fly content.
It did kinda have that but not in a way i thought, which is a shame (for me) because i think something similar could be the 'vet' content people want. I think i read a chronicle/blog/post (wuteva) that seemed to hint Arek'jalaan content created research stuff would possibly lead to new modules - i wondered if that might be tech 3 mods being introduced.
Anyway, im heading into 'features and ideas' i suppose to be textually murdered by the intelligent folk at some point i guess with this.
Personally, im a year behind you but havnt run out of 'exciting' stuff to do. Im a sporadic player at best so stay out of heavy 'own stuff and rule people' content but there is a lot for an individual to do besides that. The only thing i really miss out on is access to advanced building materials and the ability to safely run POS structures.
I do totally agree with the add more vet content thing though, and will add support to the better arguments
I have a question to you to finish...... have you ever had an officer spawn ? "caught on fire a little bit, just a little." "Delinquents, check, weirdos, check, hippies, check, pillheads, check, freaks, check, potheads, check .....gangsn++ all here!" |

I'm against the idea of giving vets access to stuff just because they're vets. Your 100+ million skill points mean you've already got a distinct advantage over me in combat, not to mention an almost-certainly deeper wallet. I don't think it's in the interest of balanced gameplay to say "hey, give us better ships than the stuff flown by those other guys who also pay you money, because we've been playing longer."
If your primary motivation in Eve is flying new ships on a regular basis, you'll never be satisfied. They could give you veterans access to Jove ships tomorrow, and six months from now you'd be clamoring for bigger and better ships than those. It's time to put an end to CCP's war on piracy. Fight your own battles and stop asking CCP to do it for you. |

I know you're against it. Most people without 100m SP will be against it, because the idea scares them, or they feel it will unbalance Eve. However I talk to a lot of people who are over 100m SP, and many are for it.
(p.s. when you get to 100m SP, tell me if you still feel that flying more of the same ships everyone else can fly is an *advantage*)
Consider that the number of accounts in Eve above 100m SP is around 10,000 out of what, 400k subs? Of those 10,000, I'd say more than half are unsubscribed. This is because there's little reason or draw to keep training above that point. I would like to add a reason.
(p.s. 2: You say my motivation is flying new ships frequently. I counter that my motivation is to fly ships few others can. The last time ships were released with high training requirements was the introduction of T2 - where interceptors and HACs were added, and were vastly more powerful than their T1 equivalents. Not everyone could fly them immediately, and the veterans had a leg-up on getting them sooner. The change did not destroy Eve - it improved it) |

Im probably not too far away from a hundred million skillpoints but when I do reach them, I won't neccessarilly be clamouring for ships that only I and the select few can fly. Im more looking for new areas, mechanics/gameplay to keep me going such as dust 514 etc. They might work some more on WIS maybe.
I find the idea of a million skillpoint characters being able to become jovian and start over from 0 an interesting idea. Doesn't mean that jovian ships would become the preserve of just jovians but only those with a million plus have a chance to become jovian
Good luck to the OP. Maybe if you skip around 4 expansions the game will be new to you again when/if you come back. So the equivalent of missing out on Incursions, Incarna, Crucible and Inferno although maybe missing those particular expansions is for the best. CCP shouldn't begin their expansions with I ;) |

To the OP.
You have done great work and helped make this more than a game - more like an epic sci fi series that we don't just watch.
I think you will be back in the future once there is a routine with the kid - perhaps in a few years when the kid is self-propelled and off diapers. I know quite a few hard core gamers who took a break from gaming because of a birth and there is nothing detrimental to that.
Right now the storyline, live events, and immersion content are quite dead. Live events were the only thing keeping me around, but there is hope they will return and I think it's a pattern. The game is going through a lot of content changes that have soaked up a lot of resources. For me it's skill queue online until the good times return, but they will return. But I suppose if I had 100m+ SP I too would take a break.
And there is no telling what the players will do. It's unfortunate these limitations of player events whereby the best we can do is something like Hulkageddon and Burn Jita (speaking of players in general and not myself or you specifically). It's something, but not enough.
Good luck in your endeavors. Perhaps you should disappear down a wormhole - toss the RPers a bone.

I "only" got 80 M SP (all sub cap in all races with about all ship skills to 5 and all tanking and weapons to 5 except some spec skills), but I would like to some ships using all the racial skills for one ship. Kind of like a "super" pirate faction ship. |

Sad to see you go. I hope you will keep the Lorebook available, even though you quit the game. Thanks for the efforts you have done for the community and good luck on your future endeavors. I think CCP's virtual abandonment of the lore and history (including the stealthy termination of Dropbear) is most likely the secondary reason he is leaving (primary of course being family).
