The profits that some of the neo-cons and their croneys are making out of the 'war on terror' can only be described as a financial win for themselves. If the USA neo-cons had remained focused on the original pretext for the war, and had been prepared to also use their brains and diplomacy, rather than just use it as a shop window for their arms industry, then I think it was very winnable back in 2001/2002. They had pretty much unanimous global support against the Taliban, who had a precarious grip on power in a country that was sick to death of fighting. They even had sympathy, and a golden opportunity to build bridges and new alliances, in the middle east. But Bush was prepared to squander that opportunity, and cynically exploit the situation, in order to try and further the neo-cons neo-imperialist ambitions in Iraq. That is why US/UK adrenalin junkies, dumb meatheads and naive idealists are dying in ever greater numbers in Afghanistan now. Of course the thousands of women and children dying over there atm to allied bombs and bullets didn't get to choose whether to sign up for the risk or not though. The US/UK should listen to the other wealthy countries who have experienced war in their own back yard, first hand, and in living memory. Non of them are keen to travel half away around the world to attack 'easy targets' in self defence. Just maybe they aren't just cheese eating surrender monkeys. Maybe they they know better than the 'tough guy' who has never actually seen a fight, first hand, as a nation.
